Atlantropic citys

Post by rdrdrdrd »

This is my first real scenario, you have to deliver 100,000 crates of goods across this war torn, heavily fortified, southern atlantic country. It is one of the most challengeing scenarios Ive played. I can't find my screens, but when I do i will post the

I found my screens; 1 hour and the search function on my 150 gig laptop searching for .bmp

May the force be with you.
For little boys, three things reign as supreme attention-keepers: tanks, heavy construction equipment, and trains, we all know why where here.

Heads-up: You need the Enhanced Paper Cycle for this scenario. The boxcars call on the woodchips.

I quite like it, once you've got the coal/iron ore running the ca$h will just come pouring in. I currently have two coal and two iron ore trains, all except one consisting of two BR 4MTs with twelve hopper wagons (the short one, a coal train, only collects from one mine, and is a 4MT with eight hoppers). I've got a shipping route going between the two islands, which is kinda slow and not really very profitable due to the sadly so very low Passenger production of the cities early-game, I've got one tram on the north island and two on the central one. I've also got a massively long railroad connecting the primary city (with the factory) with the central island.

It's kind of annoying that there's no early flatbed wagon, so I'm waiting for the larger version to roll around before I can get Goods production up. However, the primary problem is that you've selected industries for the scenario that aren't present on the map - so at this moment there's three new Livestock Farms that I can do squat with. Also, the wall around the factory city is so damn high, and it makes it a tad hard to see the city. Also, /facepalm I've just realised I could've just built TUNNELS instead of making my trains go all the way up and over the wall. D'oh Image

Overall, I'd give it a 7/10. It's a fun, unique map, that presents a challenge primarily in the initial phases of construction because the mining island just produces so much raw materials. It's a pity that the only real landscape design was done on the mining island, though, but you don't really notice it because of the size of the islands (or rather the lack of it :P).

Thanks, by the way I ment to add another island with a food procesing center, but I forgot, lol  . Also when you get the goods network running I would like to see how you did it, I made trains take goods to a port, force unload, load a ship and to the city.

By the way, where are screenshots saved.

Also sorry about the paper cycle mod, I tried to use as litle mods as posible in this, hence no aircraft (also to add challenge).
also, This was totaly in the loco editor , very hard, I cant work the beter ones. My original plan was a map of the canary islands, but , to hard.

I NEVER use ships, damn things go far too slow for me. (Well, cargo ships at least. I occasionally make a passenger line, like in this scenario.) I think I'll just have the steel train run its very long course and then use a shorter train to transport the goods to another corner of the city, or perhaps a parallel route going to one of the island cities if they can accept it.

Locomotion root folder, as Screenshot#.bmp.

Np, I think a lot of people have it already and I was planning to download it again so no biggie. And I rarely use aircraft, only slightly more than ships, since helicopters can carry so damn little and airports are just so friggin huge.....

Practice makes perfect. And patience. I know I'd like to make maps too, but I don't know if I have the stamina to complete it :P Most work on a scenario I ever did (besides object selection) was make two immensely long highways on a random map, consisting of two one-way roads in opposite directions, with on-ramps every so often and road links between most cities. But I'm still tossing ideas for proper maps, hand-made, around in my head. Everybody's gotta start somewhere.

Hey, at least you're further than me, you've actually released a map :P
