Graphics for an Africa Scenario

Post by _klaus_ »

Hello Everyone,

I am currently working on a 2048 x 2048 tiles Africa Scenario based on Satellite Heightmaps.
To set up this scenario authentically, I need some African Trains / RVs etc.

So far I didn't find anything in the forums - does anyone know African Trainsets etc.?

The Graphics Packages I'm using so far:
Tropic Refurbishment Set
Aviators Aircraft Set
Pikkabird's Brick Viaduct
American Transition Industrial Stations Set

Thanks!

Africa? 54 countries, hard to create one set.
For railways, there are more than 38 mostly independent national nets, various gauges and very various rolling stock.

...and correct me if I'm wrong: all trainsets except Tropic refurbishment set apply only to the temperate climate.

That is not correct, the Norwegian set, for instance, works in sub-arctic as well.

Just wondering why you would want to go to the mammoth effort of doing Africa right... when its already been done. (OK at 1024x1024).
You can find the Africa and Middle East scenario in the 0.4.8 scenario pack (via link from http://www.openttd.org/downloads.php).

correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that a good reason just there?
NB: the below challenges are still open for submission, so feel free to perform necromancy on them!
Try the PouncingAnt National Monopoly Challenge
Or even better, the PouncingAnt National Monopoly Challenge 2
Or better still, the PouncingAnt National Monopoly Challenge 3
Or, the PouncingAnt National Monopoly Challenge 4

Or try my scenario instead!

Yep, and it will be very hard to make the desert/greenland gradients as good as in the africa & middle east scenario.

I'd choose another continent.

Yeah, but in that scenario, Harare is more hilly than Mutare, and more arid than Bulawayo.
The reverse is true in both cases.
And beside, a truly African ONLY scenario would suffice. No Middle East. And better placement for Zimbabwean features. Including the mighty Mosi-oa-Tunya.
Go for it.
I think that I may never see,
A billboard as lovely as a tree.
Perhaps, unless the billboards start to fall,
I may never see a tree at all.

Now where I do agree, is that I had to compromise greatly on industries since I could only use tropical industries. A new version could be done with the ECS vectors, and create a much more detailed & accurate industry setup. (eg. have coal mines in SA, etc.)

Does the Tropical Refurbishment Set support ECS, though?
