Transport Pictograms

Post by MHTransport »

NSW Ministry of Transport published its unified pictogram set. And I thought they might serve as a good basis for future in game icons.

PDF http://www.transport.nsw.gov.au/abouttr ... ndards.pdf
All transportation pictograms should present icons that are
easily recognisable and consistant in meaning with other
networks throughout the world. The stylised design of
pictograms should be the only distinguishing feature from one
newtwork with another.
Pictograms within this standard have been designed to
conform to International and Australian Standards while
presenting a strong corporate image for transport in New
South Wales.

Especially the Ph-14 "No Tea Chests" is useful.
(in other words: what the hell do they need so many icons for!!)

BTW love the Ph-18 'Foul Language' one... Implies that foul language is not permitted only in specific places

And last but not least.. well look at the pics.. I hope there won't be too many doors with both a red and a green button - and one of there signs next to them... :?

I thought this had to do with "Company Logo's" :/ that'd be cool!
To express moral judgments about good and evil, you must posit that good and evil exist
If good and evil exist, you must posit a moral law by which we can distinguish between good and evil
If a moral law exists, a moral law giver must exist.

Hey guys

Would any of you know whether those transport pictograms could be extracted as individual files in a useful format (perhaps PNG, JPG, BMP etc) so they could be incorporated into maps and things like that?

I have used antiquated versions of those pictograms in maps I have previously drawn - for example:
http://johomaps.com/oc/australia/nsw/sy ... etro1.html

but would be interested if you folks know how to get these pictograms out? I know they are available as stencils in PDF or EPS format at the website, but that's not very helpful for an amateur like me.

Many thanks
Bernie

You can convert pdf to bitmap (png) by importing it in photoshop, for example, page by page. Of course you'll need to do the cutting yourself..
