What train is this?
I was looking at the aerial photographs of Norwich railway station on Google Maps and stumbled across this.
The pictures are about 5 years old because all those redevelopments to the south of the station were completed about 5 years ago, but I was more interested in the train that appears to be sitting in the royal mail bay platform.
Any ideas what train it is? It appears to be 4 coaches and nothing like any trains in service in the UK at the moment.

Re: What train is this?
Most of those photos on both windows live and google maps are at least five years old all over since most of the south still have the slammers in the pictures (Aylesham has what looks like a 365 and a slam door train, and neither run in the south east any more - other than the East Kent Light Railway! - the 412 i think it is).
Is that a diesel train? (could they be some type of freight wagons?)

Re: What train is this?
I initially thought it may be an Intercity 225 service, but the pantographs are too close to the ends to match a 91.
Re: What train is this?
Norwich isn't electrified, so they aren't pantographs. My guess would be that the markings are for helicoper identification or something.
Re: What train is this?
Dunno if you've ever been to Norwich, but it is electrified, although that platform isn't electrified but it could have been shunted there as that is often the case.Kevo00 wrote:Norwich isn't electrified, so they aren't pantographs. Re: What train is this?
Seems that it is an EMU but EMUs don't usually have pantographs at the front of the driving coach usually on one of the middle carraiges. Also odd because EMUs don't usually venture further north than Ipswich and if they do they return south immediately.

It was electrified in 1987, 20 years agoAmeecher wrote:Dunno if you've ever been to Norwich, but it is electrified, although that platform isn't electrified but it could have been shunted there as that is often the case.Kevo00 wrote:Norwich isn't electrified, so they aren't pantographs. Re: What train is this?
Verily! Our grain harvest is under threat again this year, and this year is the last year that Pacific National is being subsidised by the government to do it. Next year, they won't bother, 'cause it'll cost too much, and they will convert their existing grain hoppers to coal hoppers or scrap them, or just dump them on a siding, reassign all of the PN Rural/Bulk 81's to coal service, and the lines will be shut down because none of their competitors can get the rolling stock needed...Badger wrote:You're just jealous
So yes, very jealous of how extensive your rail network is. Ours shrinks each year.

Re: What train is this?
D'oh. Norwich is indeed electrifed, silly me for forgetting as it is where all those nice class 90s go now. But you still wouldn't get a 225 there...
