order a plane to service automatically at a designated airpo

Post by EngiNear »

(I searched but couldnt find a similar topic)

Say I have a liner going between two far cities. There should be a way to tell the plane to automatically go down for servicing at designated airports (these airports should be on the plane way for better efficiency) or at least at any near airport in a designated tile range, instead of letting the plane fume slowly all the way to the other airport. it will save so much time this way and of course money too.

It would be better not to break down at all or at least very rarely as it has been suggested before.
1. We could have some more crashes. OR
2. The plane needs repair and after unloading passengers goes to depot and gets serviced for some days.

I want planes to run out of fuel mid-air, and passengers have to push them to the next airport for refueling.
Failure would mean a crash and they all perish. That way they are bound to co operate and push.
:D

Perhaps, unless the billboards start to fall,
I may never see a tree at all.

:D
It is more reaslistic to have this with the buses :D
The passengers will go out and start to push the bus to the nearest station. And if there was only a few passengers abroad, it would take forever to get there :D

That's an ancient joke!
- A ship broke down and 1000 "toylanders" were drowned. (Substitute "..." with what is appropriate for your area.)
- Why?
- They jumped to push!

well it seems either I didnt explain my point well or the whole thing was misunderstood somehow.
I definitely know that when a plane breaks down, it will auto-service in the next airport and THEN drops the passengers. that's fine.
Also I know I can choose to nullify the breakdowns but I dont want that because I want to play as realistic as possible.

The problem is when you have an expensive plane with a high running cost connecting 2 FAR cities. Here time literally IS MONEY.
so if the plane breaks down, it will take forever until it reaches the city to service and drop passengers. the solution would be to have a switch like "When broken down, service automatically at nearest airport on the way (or within X radius)". so the plane will spend a little time servicing, but will KEEP the passengers on board, and then will continue to the initial destination without further loss of time. This limits the damage and improves the transport quality and the rating because passengers will reach the town in not so long time comparing to a broken down plane for such a loooooooong trip.

This will also push players to strategically place airports on the map.

the joke was funny though! :)
