New Game and I'm not going to go bankrupt this time!

Using DBSetXL with towns set to high (I normally play with normal but I wanted a good mix of local and express services.

1) The first line. Prunbury is in the process of having extra platforms added. This line became so popular that trams were also added.

2) Rannpool and Grindhattan. Local services run to the bay platform at Rannpool while all other trains run through Grindhattan.

3) Cunnley Mines, this mine sees two coal trains that run via Grindhattan to a power station at Fradingworth.

4) A map as of 1935. Request screenshots of areas you want to see and I'll go and grab 'em, there's too many places to show you a screenshot of each one :)

As sir ordered.

1) Farfingbourne. Reversing sidings at each end of the station allow trains to terminate.

2) Pendinghall. The mainline enters from the North while only local trains use the line to the East.

3) An unrequested screeenshot. The flat junction that Allows trains from Farfingbourne reach Dawood to cross the Pinley to Cunley mainline. Compare to the above screenshot, it's the same coal mine ;)

Yaaaay, new game, new game!

Hmm, it would seem the buffer stop at Raninghall is part of a seperate station. Any special reason for that?

It's actually not a seperate station. That is the main station where the trains actually stop. Ranninghall Bay and Ranninghall Through are actually waypoint to make sure the trains chose the right platform. The station name is above the buffer presumably because I built that bit first but I can't remember. Hope that answers your question.

I assumed you just made the three platforms as two stations (through would have 2 platforms).
Surely that would work just as well :-o

But yes, question answered.

That would work but then I can end up with a lot of people waiting at the bay platform without being able to get rid of them because I can't add more trains. It works better this way ;)

Hmm, point taken.
I guess I personally would have solved it with some tracerestrict signals. Because that worked so well last time .

(For those who don't know (i.e. those who are not following Ameecher and me on IRC), I had some trains doing pretty weird stuff because they couldn't to their destination due to restricted signals)

Haha. As it happens the signals are restricted too. The signals to the bay platform are set so that "Station of current order is Ranninghall Bay" and the through signals are "station of current order is Ranninghall Through" belts and braces I suppose but it works :)

Restricted signalling is fun - until you forget what you've restricted when introducing new trains and they go everywhere except where they're meant to

I just discovered that with my new 4 track mainline (pics will come soon). I restricted the signals so that slower trains used the outer tracks and faster trains used the inner tracks, I however, managed to set it up so there was one train that couldn't use either line, that was a bit annoying to say the least. 30 trains all stacked up for a long way...

Edit: Infact the shots are coming now.

1) Puningbury was originally a single track station but as traffic along this line increased (quite dramatically, about 20 trains use this line) it was in dire need of dualling so this was the solution, a rather lengthy bridge along the shores of the lake.
SCR56.png

2) The southern end of the 4 track section. The terminus platforms are for local trains to Pendinghall while some trains use from Punbury use the depot to reverse and head back North.
SCR57.png
SCR57.png (254.6 KiB) Viewed 974 times
3) The Northern end of the 4 track section. The major of traffic takes the left route through Funwood while only a handful of local trains use the right hand route.

4) The flat junction was removed when the mainline was quadrupled and this is the result, two VT-137s speed southbound with a service to Pendinghall while a Northbound, BR45 hauled iron ore train is overtaken by a BR01 hauled express.
SCR60.png
SCR60.png (215.3 KiB) Viewed 979 times
5) The reason the mainline was quadrupled is this steel mill. Iron ore from all over the region is transported here for processing into steel. The steel production needs a lot of power and most of the coal in the region is used to supply the mill too. A BR85 arrives with a coal train while a BR45 loads steel.
SCR62.png

6) Map as of 1949, the network hasn't added very many new destinations (the east hasn't even heard of the railways yet). However there are now over 50 trains operating the network and the company is making over £2m a year.

And for today we have a few more :)

1) Funwood got the 4 track treatment (it became a bottle neck, well it was always a bottleneck) because the mainline narrowed to two tracks when only 3 trains left the route and when a train stopped at the station it would cause queues of 10 or more trains...
SCR65.png
SCR65.png (197.18 KiB) Viewed 979 times
2) Cunnley showing off new stock. ET-30s form local trains instead of BR38s and BR110s and V200s form express trains instead of BR18s and 01s. Freight is largely BR01/45 hauled still.
SCR66.png
SCR66.png (215.84 KiB) Viewed 992 times
3) Drindinghall finally got added to the network, I built the station a long time ago, just never actually built the line. Express and local trains go from here to Farfingbourne and Pendinghall. The line on the map goes Drindinghall, Flenfingbourne, Little Prenpool and Farfingbourne or Drindinghall, Flenfingbourne, Tardingbury and Pendinghall. VT-11s run the express services while local services are powered by cascaded BR01s from the mainline with new local coaches.

What is it with tunnels under cities that makes screenshots so appealing?
Somehow I like the look of em.

1) A little shot from me of one of the rural branches. This line is one of the last to use loco hauled stock on local services, elsewhere multiple units have taken charge.
Donham is a small town that has the main purpose as a junction, trains from Pendinghall run into Donham and either reverse to go to Sintford and New Senningbury or continue on the through platforms to Slinntown. A BR38 travels through the cutting from Sintford with a service from New Senningbury to Plendinghall. Meanwhile a V140 takes the line to Pendinghall with a service from Slinntown. Both locos are rather ancient and will be replaced with multiple units because the reversing at Donham would often cause delays on the rather tight timetable.

2) Those of you that have been in #tycoon for the past couple of hours will know that I've been trying to work out how the colour cycling in the TTD Palette works so that I can get some half decent rapids into my game. Unfortunately I've got flashing rapids instead of flowing ones which is a bit better but still far from perfect. A V200 with F-Train stock crosses the viaduct.

Savegame has been added at GoneWacko's request. main grfs required are PBI, and DBSetXL. Others are cosmetic, trams will break because it uses the UK Tram set which isn't yet released and buses will turn into the default buses unless you have HOVS.

Edit: you also need TTRS (not entirley necessary but nice :P), newstations and the new industrial stations set, think that's the lot.
