Small Airport [32bpp] dead..again - & Seaplanes port [8bpp]

Post by LordAzamath »

As I started to model the tropical bank (thread is here) I didn't know that I liked the modeling so much. Now, when the bank is still in progress, I wanted to model something else too, to help OpenTTD a bit.

I started modeling Small Airport. It is still something very ugly and primitive, but I will post the first render here.

Project was resurrected by me.

26 sept - officially dead..again. The issue is that I found out that Ben & Aracirion are already working on that.
Not so sure of their progress though. http://wiki.openttd.org/index.php/Stati ... raphics%29

If Ben or Aracirion are reading this, please confirm I'm right by presenting that airport.
Until further news I will not even think of continuing the small airport.
I already had got stuck in grass, because I couldn't open GeekToo's grass. So I will not do anything concerning small airport in an unknown period of time

I think though that hte progress of seaport for planes will continue.

The end outcome will look nothing like this. :) I promise.

How do the planes get from the runway to the terminal or vice versa?

Lighting is wrong, light should come more or less from east. See the setup mentioned in your bank topic

"normally"!

And I suppose they don't "normally" put square wheels on airplanes either.

Remember, the small airport is generally used between the 1920's and the 1960's, unless you activate it for longer. It won't have a satellite, or even radar, and everything will most likely be wood or brick.

BAD NEWS!!! :( :(

There will be no update in few days, because I got a little frustrated, when I was ready to present you the next ver, and my computer logged me out, w/o me having saved my work. In some days I will start it all over again I think, but until my next post here - it's put away into a chest and key thrown away. ?(

Could you provide the graphics for its other 3 angles as well? I will then create a newgrf small airport for you using your graphics, that will work in all 4 directions (in the NewGRF_ports branch).

It would be great as well if you could provide some buildings for the seaplaneport... here is my current attempt (just using small airport graphics). The airport works, but currently is looking for some seaplane aircraft that can land at it!

Well, I'm gonna model them for the new enigne (that 32bpp or whatever), so basically in 3D. Is that, what u meant?
Though you CAN use those sprites , but you will going to have to wait.

That seaplane port idea is very interesting and I surely will help model a little seaport too :)

I will model them anyway. In the future, with the semi3d engine they still can be useful, so I hope there will be seaplane ports in the future.

@richk67: the seaplane port would need to have berths for the aircraft to let passengers get in/out of planes or a ramp for amphibious craft where the planes can exit the water and roll to parking position.

Its intended for the hangar to have a ramp down into the water. All other graphics are up to the artists skills. I cant draw for toffee...

Nice. I think those docks may be a bit too small for an aircraft to fit in! Please dont feel constrained by the "runway" ... I can resize that easily for as much open water as required. But I like the idea of a jetty coming out at right angles to the shore, with boarding ramps for the passengers.

the hangar is nice-- i would assume however that the planes will move exactly as they do in the small airport- so the parts sticking out would be in the way of the planes. [edit] rich beat me to it-but perhaps a very small jetty between the two empty water tiles in front of the buildings would be ok? then the planes would park either side? and could still move the same as before. maybe. i dont know exactly how they move. this is a quick mockup of wwhat i meant. (not really got time to be doing this so cant do any better right now!!!!)

Yup, that would work perfectly. Maybe a wooden looking jetty would be nice.

I can always reprogram the state machine anyway.
