The Airbus A380

Post by Sscls »

I very like airplanes and my favorite airplane is the huge Airbus A380. I mostly like it because of it is big, luxery and impressive. Here you can discuss
it.

they say that the distance between A380s must be 20 miles compared to 10 miles for a 747, so in effect A380s may in fact reduce capacity

Why do they say that? Vortices?
Confusious say "Man with one altimeter always know height. Man with two altimeters never certain."

Well, if the distance between airplanes must be 20 miles if one of the planes is an A380, there can be less airplanes in the air.

20/10 miles in the minimum distance, typically planes are only this close when approaching and leaving airports.
In mid flight, this will likely have no effect.
Routing planes around airports can be done even with increased horizontal separation by having planes come in at different angles, and at different altitudes, etc.
Many airports will need new runways as well, so that increases landing/takeoff capacity as well.

The separation itself is probably as Parkey said due to the turbulence and disturbed air behind the plane.

Did'nt the boeing company just come out with a new prototype as well, and have more orders then the A380, due to the amount of time it would take to build each plane?

I was at farnborough and I can say that this was the most ugly plane there, yes it is practical, yes it is big, but it doesent look right. I much prefered the A340-600 they had which looked fine (worlds longest jetliner). But nothing beats the look of the new 787 dreamliner (yes I am a boeing fan)

I think the A380 brings the big, mean and 'ggrrr' effect on passenger aircrafts. I sometimes say, 'the bigger the better', but this just makes fun of that phrase.
Well done to Airbus to create a big plane like that and be able to get it to take off and fly.

Its not the taking off and flying... its returning safely to the ground afterwards that really matters ;)

Has anyone here heard of the new 747 varient the 747-8 (8 for 787) this 747 will take technology from the 787 which will kick the A380 cleanly out of the sky (except on realy dense routes)

Never heard of that, i do know that they expanded the "bumb" to fit more passengers in it.

Found this one also: (http://www.aerofiles.com/_boe.html)

Boeing 747LCF (Boeing)

747-400LCF 2005 = New Pregnant Guppy ("Large Cargo Freighter") as cargo carrier with three times the capacity of the standard -400 freighter; ff: 9/9/05 (p: Joe MacDonald, Gerald Whites, Randy Wyatt). POP: 1 built in Taipei [N747BC], and another one in the works (2006). TRIVIA: Its 44,000# swing-open tail alone weighs as much as a fully-loaded WW2 B-17, and its 65.000 cuft cargo section could accommodate a three-level 10-lane bowling alley (not too practical for games during turbulence), with room to spare for a restaurant.
