Small Shops

Post by AlphamattII »

Ive been messing around with new graphics the last few days- putting some from one set into another, making buildings a little taller, etc

today however i tried to make my own- the little shop in the screenshot- its pretty rubbish. i nicked the fan on the roof and the car from some stuff in the town replacement set i think. i just copied it over one of the houses in a pcx file as i have no idea how to do it otherwise. (It means that the suburbs get filled with them though).

the FIRST thing i drew was actually those french and EU flags on the building on the right. god knows why i did that.

Just thought id let you all tell me what you think.

It looks ok, but the contrast seems too high. It might be better if you used less bright/dark colours.

That looks much better.
It's a nice style.

But maybe you should invest some time to start
your own newgrf instead of altering the work of others.

Of course it's no problem as long as you're using it only in private
but as soon as you like to release it to the community
it'd be better you did it all alone.

This is no offense! Keep at it! :D

Its a good start alphamatt. As Klogg says, get to work on some new stuff, we are anxiously awaiting it! (Especially now we have newhouses in the nightlies!!)

Oh, and the 2nd shot looks much better. The only thing to me is that it needs more texture. More weathering. And some reflection or something on the windows, maybe a bit of a dark grey or something.

i was just altering another grf set as a test. id really like to do my own grf. i wouldn't know where to start though, is there some kind of tutorial somewhere?
this was just a quick try for my first. its a shop down my road. i did it because it was a box and was simple. but id like to be able to start from scratch.
cheers for the feedback.

look at wiki.ttdpatch.net and then under newgrfspec or something.
