Easy way to install the datafiles on Linux

Post by frederific »

Hi,

I was bored today, so I've written a script to download and install the data (graphics and sound) files on Linux. I hope that this is of some help to any newbies out there.

Make it executable, then run it as root. Requires wget and unrar.

1) You do realize that $GAMEDIR isn't necessarily a location that only root can write, right?
2) You do realize that tools like this are ... discouraged, right?
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.

1) Yes, I did, but the default (as far as I know) needs root

2)No, I didn't realise, sorry. I kind of assumed that if its OK for the forum has links to the game files, its OK to have a script that downloads them.

However, if devs/mods/admins don't like it, please delete it.

Didn't OTTDDown got quite thoroughly sent elsewhere?
I could be wrong, but I thought it did basically what this does.
