Hi, Rollo. Interesting guess. But no, it´s neither Iraq nor a Tülomsas type DH12000 (or DH10000). Sorry.

Good one Michael. This loco looks something like a beat up Alco C415 crossed with a GE heavy centrecab. It's neither though

country: Cameroon
railway co.: Camrail
line: Central Line?
gauge: metre Gauge
type: BB 1100?
builder: Alsthom/MTE
location: Yaounde

Yeah, this shows me that you found that single Cameroon Railways page on the net. Seems that all that african stuff gets too easy meanwhile ...

Correct, this is a BB diesel-electric jointly built by Alsthom and the former "Société MTE", which at that time was a subsidy of Jeumont-Schneider and Creusot-Loire, and was later incorporated into Alsthom.

Just some more information about Cameroon´s Railways:

Until WWI, (parts of) Cameroon had been a German colony, named "Kamerun". The Germans built a couple of meter-gauge railways, namely

- the 160km long Manengu- or Northern Railway, financed and built by the "Kamerun-Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft" (see attachment) between 1906 and 1911, connecting Duala with the Manengu Mountains at Nkongsamba,

- the "Central Railway" ("Mittellandbahn"), connecting Duala with Njone, some 280km building beginning in 1908 and reaching Bidjoka, km 150, in december 1913, later reaching Yaoundé (Jaunde, see attachment).

Nevertheless, the oldest railway in Kamerun was a plantation railway for the "Westafrikanische Pflanzungsgesellschaft Victoria" (WAPV) on the southern slopes of Mount Cameroon. Of this railway, there´s still one small steamer in existence at Tiko, the "Governor Ebermaier", a 10 tonnes, 0-8-0 Orenstein & Koppel, built in 1914 (build no. 7720):

Good work, Dan. Your turn again.

Thanks Michael, I've gotta come up with a really good one now.

I actually found it by looking for "Alsthom MLW" on Google Images. The unit looksed vaguely Alco to me from the frame up. It isn't, but it has similar features. Interesting looking locos, that's for sure. I'm on a hunt, I'll post later today/tonight.

Thanks for your interest, Dave. I´m increasingly interested in railway history. It´s a fine synthesis of diverse technological, historical, economical and socio-cultural developments. I wonder where we were without railways. 8)

And african railways are very interesting, especially because of their colonial background. Unfortunately, only a small number of rolling stock has survived and even good photographies are rare.

Well, then you´ve been lucky, because only because there were some MLWs on that page, google showed you that special picture. And it´s not even the exact picture in question which shows up but a slightly different one:

Hehe. 8)

Yeah, Rollo is right. The definitive site is here:

http://www.martynbane.co.uk/modernsteam ... na/arg.htm. I´ve considered the "Argentina" myself before, but in the end I thought it´d be too easy for us. :P

Nevertheless, I have a growing feeling that time zones begin to play a key role in posting/guessing trains ... 8)

Nice one Rollo, as usual.

I think Michael's right. I thought the "Argentina" was sort of distinctive too, but ater Rollo got the Bermuda Railway so easily, I was at a loss, that one was my trump card :P

Looks like it's Rollo's turn and looks like I'm going to have to find another train :D

Hi DanMacK

Thank you. The only clue i had was the badge and logo. It was not USA style as they were into Art Deco. So for me it had to be somewhere else but where :?: :?:
I found it eventually by typing "streamlined locomotives" into Google.
After about 7 pages a related graphic to the website Michael refered to caught my attention.
Clearly one of the excesses of the Peron Era.

I will post the new Guess shortly as i have one in mind.
