Has anyone tried to make an "open graphics" set?

Discuss, get help with, or post new graphics for TTDPatch and OpenTTD, using the NewGRF system, here. Graphics for plain TTD also acceptable here.

I don't like reading about "replacing Toyland", it is in the original game and I don't want to see it gone. Better say create a new climate.

I prefer to be contacted through PMs. Thanks.

Well, I suppose we can pay someone to model Toyland, because I'd think thats the only way it'd get done.

Yep, money bad spent though,

the thing is, if you replace original graphics using parts of those graphics, you're not advancing a single bit, since all the issues remain.

The 'cute' little graphics are endearing.. Im interested to see the 32bpp but it certainly wont replace the current graphics to me.
Possibly, if we are doing it right the 32bpp graphics shouldn't affect gameplay, but some people would stay on old sets anyway I guess. More impotant is the fact that you cannot ditribute OTTD freely as it requires copyrighted graphics. That should be the main target imo.

We could start it simply by editing stuff in original GRF's by replacing all the current stuff with fillers(black boxes with little captions on them) and then slowly filling these files with content.
We don't need perfect artwork for now we can stick to more simple stuff and later improve it, the thing that needs to be solved is that OpenTTD can't be distributed freely now after all.
I should be able to get all the traincars and coal/iron ore/grain truck replaced but i will only start if we agree on this.

Probably a better idea to assign somebody(or bodies) to the task to accept graphics in a certain format, put it into a tar along with an info file and put it into the 32bpp cvs branch, while maintaining a status list on the wiki or something.

It will show progress, which will probably attract more artists. And give a good feeling on how the graphics are in game, while showing flaws.

Won't work... so far replacing for example train graphics in 32BPP is close to impossible unleas you want cripled resized models in...
Also i do believe it's better to do the set in old pixel art style with GRF files than to try and do the still changing 32bpp way. Also do you imagine the sheer size of total 32bpp replacement? Also by doing GRF way we can ask some authors theyre work becouse as said before in this topic we already have total town replacements, roadsets and more.

Born Acorn: I assumed, and hoped, that the Lego models would be used instead of Toyland. They are along the same lines, but are so much better, and bearable, than Toyland graphics.

if you remove toyland, would temperate and so have more gfx-space? aka more room for sprites and stuff?

No. All entities exist exactly once, and are shared by all climates.
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.
