Trams/trolleys

Post by dtb1322 »

I have been playing OPENTTD for a week and a half now and will be upgrading to 0.5.0 this weekend.

I have Locomotion but did not play it for very long after I got it, I do not like it nearly as much as TTD. But there was one thing that is in Locomotion that I really like and that was using trams/trolleys instead of buses. I really dislike using buses in TTD but sometimes it does gain the favor of the town.

Anyway, does anyone know of a set of graphics for trams/trolleys that will work with 0.5.0? And are they constructed on the city roads like in Locomotion?

Trams are not implemented yet, if you want trams in TTD then you should use TTDPatch.

Thanks, I just did a search of the forums and found the same, just thought there might be something out there. Oh well, I am sure the developers are still working on it, it seems to be a popular request.

Well, we 've learned to be patient with OpenTTD. Some things are implemented after a long time, but OpenTTD has other merits. I didn't play OpenTTD till last year when many new features were implemented.
Seems that more and more are playing OpenTTD now. Of course this doesn't mean that we 've abandoned TTDPatch for reasons like the one you 've mentioned. I suppose trolleys can be coded like buses (missing of course the overhead wires). If not mistaken there must be some attempts encoding trolleys. (Of course the Russians have encoded something, but usually their graphics are out of scale as they are suitable for 128 tileset, so usefull for testing currently and not for playing.) Bear in mind that there are tram wires and maybe extra wires for trolley will look ugly as TTD tiles are small. Have to wait for later in OpenTTD when tileset goes 128x63).

I'm not second you opinion. Pnaky did very good looking trolley catenary, which not looks ugly. We can only wait...

Trolleys are VERY easy to do. Just make new the road & bus GRFs and there ya go. No need to change anything in the code.

Surely that would make all roads become roads with trolley cables on? And what about the stops?

The vehicles would travel over the wires, if you made the wires part of a road GRF.

Isn't it possible to give the wires a seperate bounding box? You can give newstations unlimited boundingboxes per tile IIRC.

That's stations. Roads are an entirely different matter.
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.
