Stadium

Post by TagDaze »

Hi, I'm trying my hand on creating a stadium for this awesome little NewGFX project, and I kinda need ideas and comments on what I have so far, which isn't all that much... A lot still needs to be skinned, of course, but what I really need feedback on is which attributes could be placed around it, usability in NewGFX, etc.

And another question is this: Are you also doing freestyle graphics like this, or are you trying to stay as close to the original TTD as possible?

I believe the latter is preferred, the the former is perfectly acceptable and has been done many times.

Okay, here's a square stadium TTD-style.

Feedback is, of course, welcome.

You need some stairways (aisles) The outside is very plain too as there are no entrances/windows. How about some lights for night games? Also, the roof texture seems a bit odd.

And what's with those odd markings on the grass?

Where is the 50 Yard Line? Where are the Cheerleaders? Where are the manly-men in padded uniforms and helmets?

The two TTD stadiums have Football(soccer) and American Football (or is it Rugby?) pitches.

Try making each "side" of the stadium a separate structure, and then in the gaps between put floodlights.

(I realise this is the pitch of my home town, but it was the second image when searching for "Football Ground". :p)

Okay, I started over with the stands.

To be added:

- Floodlights
- Scoreboards
- Entrance to stadium

Anything else?

Well, usually there is only a short gap between the edge of the pitch and the stands themselves, and the stands at each end of the pitch are shorter, so the whole structure is rectangular.

Great work though.

That last one looks much better.
Perhaps could do with a little detail on the outside walls. They look a little bare

Thanks. But the problem is that the stadium has to be square, and the field is a rectangle.
And the walls will have some windows, signs, an entrance, etc.

Perhaps you could make it rectangular and then stick the car park back in on one side or something

Manly? Compare with a rugby player. It's like American Football, except theplayers are hard enough that they don't need girly armour, and they don't have to stop for a rest every five minutes.

That is getting awesome! Things I still notice: is that gravel on the entranc to the sadium? The concrete beneath the lights looks a bit boring perhaps it needs some expansion joints (cracks). The grass is a bit blah too, but I could live with that. I can't wait to see what you do with the walls.

Yeah it's coming along nice. Try applying the official lighting setup. They can be found here:

P.S. don't ask me how do apply the light setup because i dont know. I've never used Blender.

The sun IS shining from the wrong side, I know... The official lighting setup can only be applied in Blender. I am modeling in 3dsmax. Later on, when it's done, I will export it and import it in Blender.

The entrance to the stadium is supposed to look like bricks, but from such a distance I suppose it IS kind of hard to see.
As for the outside grass, I still need to mess around with the colors a bit, perhaps give it some noise to make it look slightly irregular.
I was wondering what to do about the concrete... Cracks is a nice idea. I was thinking of a light layer of sand to make it look a bit messier.

Good luck getting it into Blender...

For a max light set up check :- http://www.tt-forums.net/download.php?id=54494

For the recent topic where a guy also used max, check http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?t=27021

Try rendering to orthographic rather than perspective. (Check 2nd link)

The .blend thread has evolved and isnt just blender models now really, so you could just post in there.

Also, whats the tree plugin your using? I want it!

Heh, you can import 3ds into Blender, so that's not a problem. Finding my way around Blender is a problem. :P

I don't use a tree plug-in. In 3dsmax, deselect if you have anything selected. Go to the Create tab. Under Geometry, select the drop-down menu (the one which says "Standard Primitives" by default.)
In the drop-down menu, select "AEC Extended", and click the Foliage button. You'll get a whole bunch of trees which will eat up your computer when it renders and you haven't been careful. :P

I'm playing around with the lighting-file now. Looks good.

Edit; I will post in the Blender thread from now on. This thread may be locked.
