New Industry: Sugar (No, Not Toyland style) [WIP]

Post by Ameecher »

I know that there are a lot of new industries going around at the moment but I propose a new chain of industries consisting of:

Sugar beet (produced at a standard farm) Food Processing Plant/Sugar Refinery  Food/Sugar

This might not seem radically exciting but for it to work I need to know if it is possible to make a farm produce more than two things (i.e. make it so that a farm can produce Grain, Livestock AND Sugar Beet).

What do other people think about this, Is it a just another thing to add to the confusion of New Industries under development?

last i checked, absolutely impossible...but things may have changed since then....

if its possible then it will make my job doing military transport a lot easier.

An industry can only produce a maximum of two cargos.

Ah, that is a shame, I guess that makes this idea pointless. Thanks all. A moderator can lock this topic if they wish.

Good idea, but impossible. However, to get around that, cant you make a sugar cane farm, as well as a sugar factory?

Sure you can; there's one in my unfinished tropic landscape, replacing the original Maize farm (you can only have one type of field graphics, too). It produces Sugar, which is delivered to the Food Processing Plant.

I like the idea :)

And I've heard so many impossibles about things.. Don't believe it anymore :P Everything is possible, only the time is limited.. (Say, we have to finish it within 5000000000 year)

Anyhow, to create a new factory for sugar beets doesn't sound bad either..

Well, that the feedback is encouraging. I live (fairly) close to a Sugar Beet refinery but pictures are limited so far I have found one good picture:

If anyone could find more I would be most grateful.

I remember suggesting a change to that to patchman making it possible to change it. I can't remember the outcome.

(I wanted to make a pine forest work like a farm. :p )

Ok, since there has been quite a bit of support for this idea, I have decided to have a quick go at drawing a sugar refinery. Please understand that this is an early version. Some things I already know that are wrong with it are:
 Colours
 Shading
 Roof height, it's too steep
I intend to add a pool of water (see the picture of the real thing in the attachment).

I have been thinking about the sugar cane idea, I was originally intending to have this industry as a temperate industry as sugar beet is a common crop in Western Europe and sugar cane is usually grown in places like Cuba and other 'Tropical' locations. Therefore I propose having Sugar Beet in the temperate climate and Sugar Cane in the tropical climate.

Edit: I have redone the roof of the building and I (personally think it looks better. Your views please.

2nd Edit: Out of interest, can anyone tell me the sprite numbers for roads please?

Have been working on this some more and have come up with this. I know the main buildings need texturing but I have added a weigh-bridge and some some storage sheds. Comments please.

More texturing and that woul be awesome!

Will the roads be coded so they are the same as the roadset loaded?

I don't know if that is possible. If it is It would be good.

Now here comes the usual thing from an Artist. "I can't code". Yeah I agree it's a load of bull. If I had the time to sit and learn it I would but my life just don't work like that. I need a weekend to sit and work at it. Give me time and I will!

It is, you just use the normal road sprites for the industry groundtile.

Coding grf files really isn't that difficult, and there's plenty of people around here who'll be willing to help anyone with nfo. :)

Excellent! and when the time comes I will start asking for advice on how to create grfs and to slice up the image into individual sprites.
