aww c'mom thats not even that obscure... I could have asked how many track links per side on a WW2 german Tiger tank... or for the definition of track wolf (125 (IIRC) with the battlefield tracks and a track wolf is a plow put at the end on the last train during retreat in order to wreck the track)

Well, I'll pick your brains with this one: what was Tolkien's inspiration for writing The Hobbit (and subsequently LOTR)?

He wanted to create new English mythology, and I believe one of his main sources of inspiration was Beowulf, he also translated it.

ummm ignore the 6 for a moment
the 71 indicated a 7:1 compression ratio
the 6 mearly indicates the number of cylinders that unit was designed for

Well, this may not actually be true, but I read that Tolkien was marking exam papers once, and a student has written what was to become the opening sentence of The Hobbit on a blank page in his book: "In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit." Tolkien then wanted to find out what a hobbit was, and wrote The Hobbit.

That may not be true, but that's what I heard.

Then that was his inspiration for The Hobbit, but Beowulf and mythology (not only English, also Icelandic) were for LotR.
