Those shots are GORGEOUS! Here I was dreading the ever-boring "landscape shots" (you know, as in "this was the first cow we drove by, with it's field in the backround". Then "thats his cow-house" followed by "ooh, a horse!").
Also, that mountain in the background of one of the shots - wow, I've never seen anything like that before! Seriously, nothing even close, thats really cool.
And yes, I realise my two statements are at odds with oneanother

They're going to have one hell of a railway when the WHR is finished, though the locomotives on the WHR are too big to go up the Ffestiniog line, so I don't know how they will run trains along the whole route.
Glad you like them, Rai. The landscape was beautiful on its own, and having the trains running up into the mountains is even better. The mountain you're talking about might be a pile of slate, left over from when they used to quarry it there (which was the reason the Ffestiniog line was built, to carry it away.)

In the 20's they used a FR consist over the entire railway, so it could run from Dinas to Blaenau all alone. I figure they would do a change of trains at Harbour Station these days, except in Special Events. I suppose you've seen the construction news site?DJC wrote:*Gives Born Acorn a gold star*Born Acorn wrote:Thats Earl of Meirioneth, built in 1979 by the Boston Lodge works!

Yes, the "industrial landscape" at Ffestiniog is a World Heritage site.

We had that diesel on the way down to Caernarfon, as it was the first train of the day. But for the rest of the day they had the two garretts shown in the photos running, and I can tell you, those locos are huge for narrow gauge.2-10-0 wrote:So you had steam running when you went?DJC wrote:Welsh Highland Railway at Caernarfon.
All there was when I was there was the "Castell Caernarforn" diesel. Although, I still enjoyed it since it's a good line. Be even better when complete.

Thank you DJC for taking us there from half a world away
I can only dream, maybe one day.
I loved the mainline steam locomotive and the triple spiral flyover pics were thrilling.
Wonderful views too of the countryside and particularly the bluebelles by the track:!: Beautiful forest scenes, are there enough words to describe the scenary.....more more more.

Allas no, it wasn't running. Its not powerful enough to haul the heavy trains packed with tourists.

Have you climbed into train driver cabin? I was once when I was kid. It was unforgetable filling.
Hope you'll visit Sargan Eight one day.
