Began playing a week ago

Post by ShazZ »

Hi,
I started playing ttd about a week ago and have a couple of questions that need answering.
Firstly, how are you able to 'buy out' other opponents in the game?
and also for some queer reason i am unable to build electric trains however my opponents are. Do you have to build a special type of rail stations first or something like that?

Thanks in advanced,
Richard.

hello are you uing ttdpatch. And to buy out a company you have to buy 100% shares, you buy the shares at there company window.

OK so ive downloaded that beta 7 and it works fine and i am able to buy out companies, however i still am un-able to build electric trains.
The odd thing is that when i buy out a company that has already built electric trains i can see the option to build electric trains in their depot, but not in depots built by me.

Any help would be appreciated.

If you click on the rail menu, there will be a dropdown line allowing you to select rail or electric rail (or monorail later in the game)...that is providing you have access to at least 1 electric engine...

Just to save making a new thread i got another question or two :)

What is the easiest way to update say a normal rail line to an electric or monorail? Do have have to simple re-build the entire thing or is their a simpler way?

And also, how do you increase your rating in a town and how does your rating affect your company?

The ways to convert lines are to build over the track with the new type or use the automatic track conversion sign cheat. (hint: a lot of useful information in the manual! ;))

As for town rating, you can plant trees or bribe the local authority if you've got that switch turned on (but there is a small chance of being caught)

if you use ttdxc (OR NOW TTDC 8) ) you can change the switches that activate parts of the patch. or are you talking about sign cheats?
The occasional look back at your past can teach you a great many things...

Hey hey...you just started one week ago playing a game with a lot of features... you can't expect to be a master in that short time
There are a lot of helpful pages, which are dealing with all kind of aspect. Therefore it might be good to start with

http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?t=1630

A great source for discovering these features are the TTD-Patch sites including the wikipedia

http://www.ttdpatch.net/
http://wiki.ttdpatch.net/tiki-index.php

Regarding the sign cheat .. go to the tree icon and select "place sign". Put it somewhere into the lanscape and edit the upcoming text box with the cheat you would like to activate, eg "Cht: Tracks <to> <from>" (= cht: tracks 1 2)
More details can be found here:

http://wiki.ttdpatch.net/tiki-index.php ... ck%20cheat

Regarding your town rating (only a quick overview here): That's an important issue regarding your allowance to build stations etc in the city. The higher the better. It helps a lot if you start servicing a city quite early, even if only one or two busses are driving around (further outcome: the city grows faster). If your town ranking is "very poor" or "appalling", you aren't allowed to built new stations in that city (your ranking can decrease if you kill trees, destroy houses, even building a station and not servicing it can lead to a bad ranking).

Have fun in discovering the secrets of the game and enjoy all these wonderful new graphic sets. If you have questions, feel free, but don't feel like "Jack..." that you are playing this great game.
