Why not a new BR graphics set?
Moderator: TTDPatch Moderators
I posted this somewhere else too
trg1(r).grf == temperate graphics and common graphics + some toyland buildings
trgc(r).grf == arctic climate
trgh(r).grf == tropical climate
trgt(r).grf == toyland graphics
trgi(r).grf == splash and win screens
the first time you run a grfcodec related exe on a file it makes a backup (.bak) of that file

I like your ideas, perhaps someone should fwd these to the patchman, to help him with the graphics implementation.krtaylor wrote:
Australia
Also, while i would like to see an Aussie Graphics Set, it wouldn't be very popular because our trains have high capacitys, but go... very... slowly...

I get the distinct impression that the Patchman reads basically all the messages, as he tends to drop in with the Last Word quite often. So I am confident he will find out about my thoughts. The TTD Starter people hadn't thought about extending it this way but they said the idea was interesting, and I hope between them and the Patchman we will have a solution.
What's wrong with Australia? You have some very unique looking trains, especially in the past, and of course the scenery. And even if your trains go slow, there's no reason not to give you some more modern ones. The U.S. has the same problem but in theory you could use the TGV there. Maybe we'd do a better job of it than Amtrak has.

I suspect an Australia environment would consist of:
1. The bridges from the East Asia environment
2. New scenery, based on the Tropical environment I suppose.
3. Combination of new East Asia trains and existing North American ones, modified a bit, and some new unique ones (Garratts!)
4. Different looking town buildings. Are yours basically North American in appearance, or something else? I don't think they look like either the Tropical (too Third-World) or the Temperate (too Mittel-Europ).

I have a train game which is Australian, it's called "Trainz".
You can drive trains from around the world, including many Austrailan ones.
Some locos I concider suitable for an Australian climate is:
The 48 Class (ALCo DL531) (In both AN and NSWGR liveries)
The Intercity XPT
The BL class (AN as well as the new liveries)
The 44 class / 930 class (ALCo DL500, in SAR and NSWGR liveries)
I know there are a lot more, but these really SHOULD be included...

I've heard of Trainz and read about it but never gotten it, I'm happy with MSTS and TTD and that's about all I have time for anyway.
It looks like you have given some thought to this. We certainly should do an Australian environment. I'm not familiar with exactly what they look like but that's what the Web is for.
Actually, we have so many good things to do it's hard to know where to start. Someone in a different thread wants to do a Portugese set; there already exists a great German set that would only require a bit of fiddling with TTD Alter to make a compete German environment; there are Swedish locos, and Canadian ones, and lobbying for Swiss ones, and also a desire for an English series...
Let's do one thing at a time. I just don't want to see all this energy dissipate into too many projects to get done all at once.

I meant, don't many of them look very similar to some US and European equipment graphically? So it wouldn't be too hard to change them over.

I was talking about our intercity trains - we have a railcar that looks like the manely moral, and a lot of cool double decker trains including the Tangara set (which was involved in a horrific accident near Waterfall station...), along with the XPT (Which is a pretty near copy of the Intercity 125 - but slower). I dunno about steam but we have the 38 classes, and they look really unique.
