wiki - Enhanced GFX page + .blend repository

Post by Moriarty »

I'm assuming http://wiki.openttd.org/index.php/Enhan ... eplacement is the main wiki page with all the new graphics, and that it's also the "list" of what's done or not for the gfx replacement.

I've spotted several issues with it (I know it's a wiki so I can change it, but these may be reasons these havn't been adressed):

None of the disaster sprites are listed, with even an empty place-holder table cell:
- Large UFO
- Small UFO
- UFO intercepting craft
- Attack helicopter
- Explosion / fireball sprites (this is more an animation but I'm guessing you don't want the old explosion gfx over the nice shiney new graphics).

Also, as was done on the new "NewGFX" page, splitting up the new graphics images into it's component parts might be a good idea. The page is presently 339 images and several MB to download. Splitting it up could save someone some not inconsiderable amounts of bandwidth (both for the server and for the user).
You don't really need to see every single graphic all at once do you?

Also, down a slightly different avenue, where are all these .blend files currently stored? On each creators PC? Or is there a central store where you put them all (akin to the SVN repository)?
I ask because many people don't have decent backup procedures in place at home, so their models may be lost should their Hard drives decide to die horribly, or their house decides to burn itself down (due to excess heat created by excess rendering ;) ). Along with other possible advantages.

Just some points I don't think have been covered yet.

Most of my .blends are posted in the blender thread.

Yes, but then someone has to keep two copies of the same data up to date.
i.e.
Enhanced_GFX_replacement - has everything on it
v's say
City_Buildings_(New_Graphics) which only has some city buildings on.

Unless they're both pulling their info from the same place (something I don't think wiki's can do), that's twice as much work as just having the one set of pages to update.
Just trying to reduce duplication of work. :)

Enhanced_GFX_replacement pulls its information from the <NAME>_(New_Graphics) pages. You must edit the <NAME>_(New_Graphics) pages for any changes to show up on Enhanced_GFX_replacement.
