Something I thought was a little strange, just really for no reason.

(btw, I cheated the years and money to get the monorails cause I felt like building some sort of "interburban" network. Might be cause I catch the train into the city to go to Uni everyday  )

Majestical.

Which grf do you use for those coalmine platforms? I'm wary of using my ttd newstation grfs as they may not work...

Those are part of the US Transition Industrial Set, found here.

I believe that all TTD newstation grfs work in OpenTTD.

@Majestical: You use only one-way signals.
I think this means that trains alway take the shortest route,
even if it is full since they can't choose another way.
They only can choose between two-way signals.

Correct me if I am wrong.

You're right, the pathfinder marks red two way signals as dead end and will never allow a train to go there so trains will always choose an empty platform if you use two way signals.

The entrance looks very interesting, but I think that the exit might jam because it isn't made for A LOT of trains leaving at the same time.

If you use the NPF, his layout will just work fine. But if you use NTP or just the old pathfinder, the two-way signals are indeed required to let the station function properly.

I use these GRF's from Brianetta'ssite. Thanks brianetta!

@klogg and XeryusTC: I'm not sure if I read your comments correctly but the one-way pre-signals work as intended. Look at the screenshot from another game with the same system:
The train labelled 'this one' took a different route than 'that one' even though it's longer.

You may have a point there I just made the exit like this because it works for the entrance and hey, why not? :) I'll have to see what happens when I get around to building more trains.

Edit: I just read scia's post and I think that's the most correct answer. I used to do those things with two ways too but since NPF arrived I used on ways to have some more control over the trains. (i.e. they won't go anywhere I don't want them to go)

You're welcome, Majestical, but that set of grfs will be changing soon. Any newgrfs for which I don't have a license or other explicit permission to publish will be removed from there this weekend.

All of them are available from grfcrawler.

In that case I use the following GRF's and you can all find them somewhere in the GRF-crawling system:

[newgrf]
pb_ukrs.grf
pb_hovs_bus.grf
pb_viaduct.grf
basic_platformsw.grf
harbourw_456.grf
jcindstaw.grf
newstatsw.grf
pgs-counw.grf
pgs-freiw.grf
pgs-silvw.grf
pgs-subuw.grf
ukwaypointsw.grf
usstatsw.grf

Have fun crawling

Thanks for that info. I did later find a list of working grfs and used many of my ttd ones...

Unfortunately, I can't get them to appear in station build list. They are installed right (grfs added to /data and installed in openttd.cfg), but perhaps OTT 0.4.7 won't allow them to work?? I'm expecting a small dropdown arrow to allow selecting different station types...I've had more looks at the manual but can't find what I might have to do.

Acquire a recent nightly.
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.

I was looking for the dropdown but it's not available on the 0.4.7 exe...
so I've just grabbed the latest nightly and I'll be trying that out tonight.
Thanks for all the help.

And here's the steel mill, serviced by about 15 trains. The competitions' tracks were built many years before the actual station, so we had to do a bit of squeezing. Station expansion is out of the question.

This is an overview of my actual network, its too big to fit in completetly. both of the large stations shift about 70 trains each fairly efficiently. it runs on a 4 line system, which i picked up from openttdcoop.
