I'd certainly prefer to go down that route, I don't mind a plane taking up a couple of squares, but imagine these things flying around, one flying in front of the camera would obscure half the screen.
I don't know about the roads and rails either, I suppose if we're using 12.5m squares they're still going to be one piece per square, we'll just have four times as many suqares.

These are three different sorts of ground graphics, and there all 1/4 of the size of this....

This confuses me greatly. I think it needs to be clear from the start, cause these base graphics effect a lot of other graphics.

as far as i understand it the new squares will be a quarter of the old / current squares, ie half lenght. meaning each square will represent 12.5 m real life so that each square will hold one road or one rail track.
how big the squares will be on the actual screen depends on
zoom level - at the beginning not that close zoom untill the developers give the ok for graphix that span 256 pixels in lentgh / square or something like that. To begin with each square will be 64 pixels wide
screen resolution
in a sense, whatever the size is does not matter as long as each building is scaled down to multitudes of 12.5m (so a building 25m long will cover 2 squares).
also since all stuff r made 3d, it will not be difficult to scale up or down the other vehicles say airoplanes to be 1 sq lenght or 2 or 4, since the model is ready.
EDIT: OMG these pictures r AWSOME! cool work!!!!. the airport is a bit big but u r only going to see it at full zoom like that, unlikely to be implemented in the beginning i think

To be honest i'm not so bothered as long as someone just confirms something. Scaling vehicles is all well and good, but with buildings the scale of the vehicles using them affects the proportions, so the options are to go with a modular system of scaleable compnents (not a great solution so far as windows and doors etc go) or create models that are scaled to real world sizes and hope that that is the way the new gfx is going.

Well more of a confusion on my part is if those graphics are at the final size...becuase if they are, then 4 road peices will fit on one tile...and that makes me question weather in the game a person will manually click once and get 4 road peice, or twice for 2 lots of 2, or will the 1 large tile act like 4 individual small tiles... (tiles within a tile)
Those graphics are alltakens, so send the compliments his way

one NEW tile is 12.5m and it was agreed in some thread that it will hold:
one road width
one rail track
the rest i dont think ppl have agreed (apart from some houses)
just remeber the current tiles will be cut into 4 tiles so what i am talking about is the NEW tiles (they were going to make 2 tracks per OLD tile so they said to split the tiles instead of squizing 2 tracks in)
EDIT: unless i understood wrong, i am not so sure now how each new tile will behave, but we need the developers coders here to answer this!!!

So if 4 small tiles fir within 1 tile, in a town, what would go in space x?....do we need to make more 0.5 tile sized buildings?
This also confuses me, because if this is so, why are the build graphics not just refered to as being 2x2, and the road bits 1x1, instead of 2 different sizes...wich messes my head up, more so.

So in that case, what is this tile? http://doug.mudpuddle.co.nz/gallery/mai ... e.png.html
It would be 2 tiles... so why would it be drawn up as 1 tile...
(My 'building' Square is that tile size)

>last post, im knackered...
Thats what i came to think...but this just leaves me wondering why the 1 tile i linked to in the last post, isnt just set as half the size, and then 1x1 buildings in old/current openttd get expanded to 2x2...
This would mean the road tile is 6.25 Meters across...I cant really estimate in metric...would a road realistically fit into that....?

this is the new tile so that the coders dont have to put 2 tracks in one tile. each tile holds one rail track or one road or one small building. Just like the old/current grafix.
in a sense openTT NEW graphixs are scaled differently to the current grafix. The tiles dont change as such, they stay the same, and the grafix stay the same.
Most buildings will still be one tile in size since they will not be longer that 12.5 m. Some will be bigger.
ps i sent a pm to alltaken to check here to give us an answer.
check this out:
http://www.longman.co.uk/tt_secsci/reso ... length.htm
and these look how wide the houses are (25m) these should need 2 tiles
