dxmci.dll versions
Is there one official version of dxmci.dll? Or are there several? I believe I've seen several versions around that were supposed to do different things, or fix various problems.
The reason I ask is because I'm getting some bad popping sounds in both the music and sound. It's kind of like I'm overdriving the speakers, except I don't think I am. The problem may perhaps have nothing to do with TTD, but it doesn't hurt to ask. It's a Creative sound card, which are supposed to be of good quality; I've had it for some years and it didn't used to have this problem.
Any ideas?

I think the offical version is here: http://www.ttdpatch.net/tools.html. But that'll make your TTDP use microsoft synthesizer and you might get crashes when closing TTDP.
And then there's owen's version: http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?p=103651#103651. I don't know much about that.
The best one is here (was): http://home.amis.net/lkslavi/dxmci.html. The link is broken, so I uploaded it to the forums: http://www.tt-forums.net/download.php?id=43260

Well, it lets you change your in game music to mp3, ogg, xm, everything that your WMP can read. You don't get crash when closing TTDP, and you can keep your soundcard's wavetable/FM synth.

Is there a reason it's not the official version?

One reason is surely because we have seen no source code, it wasn't send to Josef with code ...

Well, I tried Jezulkim's recommendation, and my problem got worse. Now I'm going to try Owen's.

no, actually, maybe not. I didn't realize it does ONLY MP3s, and not the original MIDIs. I'll try a re-download of the official one, maybe mine was old.
***
no, it's back the way it was - not so bad as with Jezulkim's, but still not good. Maybe there's a new driver for my sound card, it's a Creative AudioPCI WDM ES1371/ES1373 according to the driver, those are supposed to be pretty decent.

Hello,
I'm the creator of the 3rd dxmci version.
Just FYI, my homepage address has changed to http://www.si-gamer.net/gulikoza
I'm sorry to hear 1.3 is working worse in TTD, I'll try to fix it. The biggest difference from other dxmci versions is that mine uses DirectShow for playback so it should play almost anything you throw at it (provided WMP plays it as well)

Good to hear from you, and always glad to have an improved version of a core file!
