Hi Eric,

Welcome aboard. It looks a good train... please can we have some stats for it and a contact for the msts author and someone will look into it if they ever do a Japan pack or want to do something different.

Welcome to the forums, Eric. I can help you out with regards to E231 technical data.

There are 5 types of E231, E231-0 and E231-1000 series for for mid-distance use, E231-500 series for Yamanote Line, E231-800 "Metro" series for thru operation with TokyoMetro Tozai Line, and finally a sub-class E531 for long distance operations on the Joban Line.

Name JR East 231-500 Commuter EMU
Speed: 120(km/h)
Weight: 26.5 tonnes average
Design Year: 2002
Obsolete Year: N/A
Capacity and type of cargo: 162 passengers each car

These trains are normally formed of 10 cars for all series. 5 cars are also used for E231-0 and E231-1000 series and E231-500 for Yamanote Line is normally formed of 11 Cars.

Hope that helps.

Yes, the train on the first screenshot certainly is the JR East 231-500 Commuter EMU, used on Yamanote Line in Tokyo.

I can see you have a screenshot of the train planned for Locomotion in .gif format on the second screenshot. That is brilliant and I am looking forward to its release in the near future.

The technical data for other E231 versions are quite similiar to the Commuter versions. The major differences is the colour code, design year, electrification (Dual voltage for E231-1000) and signalling systems installed.

5 Car formation for Joban Outer Suburban Commuter Express

Name JR East 231-800 Metro EMU
Speed: 120(km/h)
Weight: 26.5 tonnes average
Design Year: 2003
Obsolete Year: N/A
Capacity and type of cargo: 162 passengers each car
10 Car foramtion for TokyoMetro JR joint operations on TokyoMetro Tozai Line

Name JR East 231-1000 Mid-Distance EMU
