And I suppose you know what a maglev looks like. FYI most maglevs are monorails.
Only the transrapid style maglevs are monorail, for the japanese style (still in prototype iirc) the train sits in a concrete trough and is levitated from the sides. The japanese one is far more power-efficient too, because it doesn't use powered coils for levitating, only for accelerating. The levitation and keeping the train in the center of the track are done by magnetic induction coils, which don't need to be powered.

So saying "most" maglevs are monorails is a bit misleading. TBH the monorail in ttd is far too fast for a regular monorail, so it probably is meant to be a transrapid style maglev anyway. The introduction date is pretty close to reality too. Maybe the ttd maglev introduction date is when the jap maglev finally makes it out of prototype? Wouldn't be the first time ttd predicted something.

Let's put it this way: All commercial maglevs capable of carrying fare-paying passengers, anywhere in the world, are monorail. Additionally, Transrapid is the only off-the-shelf maglev available for sale.

Subjectively, in real life, it's the only good looking one, too. The Japanese test tracks are uglier than Bradford's town centre.

Well as openttd's maglevs aren't released until well after the modern day, I guess we shouldn't argue too much.

My point about the fact that maybe modern transrapid maglevs are better represented by the ttd monorails rather than ttd's maglevs still stands though. I mean, even the first ttd monorail is 190MPH, and it's not like we have any regular monorail trains that can do that kind of speed.

About the japanese maglev... I wonder how they tolerate winters with a lot of snow.

They have a vehicle to clear the track. Once clear, any further light snowfalls are cleared by any passing train.
