A couple of issues....

Post by GeordieMike »

Forgive me if these have been mentioned before. I just installed OTTD last night.

1. I can buy out competitors for 1 pound. Their company value is only a quid so I can take over pretty easily!

2. I get annoucements that somewhere has closed due to lack of resources but when they pop up, the building has already closed, so the image is a blank space and the text is obviously missing the location name.

Minor issues really, I love some of the new features.

Actually I noticed my second point is already listed in the bugs forum so ignore that!

A company worth so little isn't worth buying out. They probably have no assetts, making it a waste of a quid. Their value will increase once they get a profitable route going.

My suggestion is, buy three shares and sell them once the value rises. Then spend the money competing against them until they go bankrupt.

I see what you're saying but how can they not be worth buying out for just a quid?? My recent example was purchasing a company for a quid who only had three trains - all profitable. Even if they weren't profitable I could sell the assests and remove the competition which would definately be more valuable than one pound.

You will find you also bought their debt too. An AI company is usually maxed out on loan until it is seriously profitable, so you probably bought its debts. This is actually pretty common in real business... buying the company for £1, but writing off £200m in debts.

I think the AI has to be able to pay it *ALL* off in one go, and have more left over for the AI to pay off. By then, it will certainly have a +ve worth.
OTTD NewGRF_ports. Add an airport design via newgrf.Superceded by Yexo's NewGrf Airports 2
Want to organise your trains? Try Routemarkers.

I thought that but my profit didn't seem to decrease very much (maybe they didn't have much debt). Oh well, wont complain!
