missing crossings

Post by Heiko1980 »

There are several crossings for traintracks over roads, but none for trams or trams for roads or monorail or maglev!
Do anyone know if one grf exits? Or if is planed to build one?

Heh heh...... Yes!, I'm lazy....
They're coming... .... It's just tricky getting all the graphics right.
Currently, you are correct, there is no GFX for Tram/Rail crossings, but the trams CAN cross if there is a road crossing there.

We made a decision a while back that Tram/Rail crossings were impossible due to the overhead catenary, etc... so it was put on the backburner

As far as I know, it is impossible to have tram and electrified railways crossing in RL, but non-electrified railways can easily cross the tram lines (There are such places here). Could it be done?

If people are willing to overlook the unrealism then i can just code it in as I have the bridges and tunnels...

The only issue is the asthetics of the current tram graphics when drawn over level crossings... I can't imagine it would look too pretty... And there'd be a LOT of work to get it all separated.

I'll see what I can rig up, when I can find some spare time.

It's possible. There was crossing in Belgrade before (now that railroad is abandoned and disassembled, but that crossing existed).

 *eeek* ... But the tram system must have the same voltage as normal trains to get this to work, or not? (If I looked right and the wires of both are connected.)
However, pretty dangerous, isn't it?

in fact here in holland it was common around leiden, the tram crossed the train tracks at several places. The wires could be lowered for the tram when a tram had to cross so it wouldn't touch the train wires. Really ingenious constructions were in place :).
In fact the crossing just behind utrecht, were the track from the railway museum crosses the normal tracks in a 90degree corner also uses a movable wire.

Maybe I can find some pictures of it.

/edit and I found one:
/edit 2 another one, this is the crossing 'blauwkapel' just south of Utrecht Central station, the iron cross is pushed down when a train has to go to blauwkapel, so the pantograph doesn't take out the crossing wire.

I can confirm that Electrified railway X tramtrack crossing were used in also Czechoslovakia. The voltage of train and tram systems was different (3kV dc : 600V dc), but railway trains passed the crossing without power take-off.

On the photo mentioned by PikkaBird, you can see the section insulator on the railway trolley wire very well, just look above "keep track clear" sign.

Dangerous? Yes, unfortunately.

Oh yes, indeed. Hadn't seen that there is a high-resolution version of the picture.

Still I find it dangerous... what if a train passes and because of some circumstances the wrong wire is moved down? *brizzel*

The crossing Blauwkapel (Northeast of Utrecht CS) is a normal railway-railway level crossing, it has nothing to do with trams. See also http://www.sporenplan.nl

Here some pictures of Blauwkapel:

but this is offtopic (and this is already possible in TTD)

90 degree railway crossings? I always thought that would be a joke when seeing some toy railways using these crossings.

Well, now I know that they really exist somewhere... never saw something like that before :o

90 degree level crossings (and various other angles) are very common here in North America.

Unfortunately not, that railway was abandoned about 15 years ago, and then tram road was renewed, so there's not this crossing anymore... IIRC, height of catenaries were nearly same. AFAIK, in Osijek (Croatia) tram gauge is same as train gauge, and trains at night (when there is no tram transport) went through tram tracks. That was 15 years ago. Maybe somebody from Croatia could tell more?

Dunno why, but here in germany I've seen only max. 10°-45° or something. Although I really often get by train.

Hello!
In Budapest, there was a crossing, where the "Királyvágány" crossed the tram line No. 29. It has abandoned, and the cable has theft.
Anno, the railwayers switch around the tram or train line power.
At the "Lajosmizsei sorompó" stop place, there's a crossing, where, the train line is non-electrifcied.

I know that, but I was aiming at the mechanism to push down an other overhead wire. The same mechanism was used on tram crossings, the only thing that was extra was a mechanism to change the voltage between 600 and 1500(well 1800 actually) volts
