Yes, the AI in this game is truely, astonishingly, idiotic. I don't know how this mess got through testing, from competitor AI (Which seems to be worse than TTD) to pathfinding (at least now we have waypoints, but babysitting trains gets boring after a while). I see busses regularly try and drive accross a huge lake rather than take a bridge that goes accross it, without waypoints.

Perhaps there is some way to fix this? It would really help if they could release some code for the AI and let the community have a crack at it.

Although "abandonware" is a myth and as a concept has no legal standing, it would be nice if the software house, on this occasion, admitted "yeah, we dropped a ball on that one, and we can see that you're all absolutely dedicated to the game - here's the source code, knock yourselves out".

Won't happen though :(

Perhaps they could run a compeition. Let people look at the source code, send in submissions for an updated AI (perhaps a vote, allowing players to test it), and include the winners submission in a patch.

Well, we can all dream. The AI is the only thing hurting the game. That and the map size, but I could live with that if the AI didn't spam railways and roads everywhere.

The AI can at least be turned off. There is however nothing we can do about the map size. Given the choice, I'd go for larger map sizes any day of the week.

Well, you might not be able to cope with it, but some people can, and have the system to take it. At least giving us the option would be nice, now that we are in the age where people have 1gb of ram to play with instead of 32mb.

yeah first computer i really played on was 4 mb ram i had some tt games on disc and loaded a very advanced game onto my mums new 16mb computer
i was amazed to see all my previously chugging 150mph trains suddenly looking like they really were doing 150 mph wizz wizz
i just scanned around the map for ages before istarted playing and now like u i have 1024mb of ram
i worked it out a few weeks ago how much i would have in another 9 years if i expanded my compuer at the same rate it was something like 750,000mb ram i remember it was over 3 1/2 times my current hard drive (200GB) sounds preposterous but then 1 gig of ram is 3 times the hard drive my mums computer had then  so its not so preposterous after all

but anyway i loved the idea earlyer about limiting the AI to steel trucks and using them to fill gaps in a goods delivered scenario target mite try that
i tend to limit my AI to 2 companys with busses and or trams and sometimes boats
although i once allowed 14 competitors using only busses and the whole middle of the map turned in to a megacity it was funny because all my industrys were round the edge and only in 1 or 2 places did the citys get that far out so the middle became AI zone and outside my zone
i also now make the AI wait 2 years so i can bag the best tram spots lol basically i use the AI for scenery not as true competitors for the reasons other ppl have shown above

ram is quite cheap now i got an extra 512 ram fitted whilst i was having some other upgrades about 8-10 months ago for £50 i bet its less now its agood thing to upgrade less or often no messin about with your hardrive during gameplay has got to help i run lomo with my antivirus running and it runs flat out no matter how many trains i have running AMD 3300 proccessor helps with that too mind  thinkin of goin upto an AMD 64 proccessor later in the year how fast depends on prices i dont keep too up to date usually 6 months to a year behind current fastest
for me its the best compramise between performance and price
