32bpp headquarters (someone take them on please)

Post by Alltaken »

Ok guys, this is an Easy task IMO. there are no construction phases for these buildings (yet of ocurse) and not many of them.

We have 5 stages for Company headquarters, i would personally like more stages than that. and different styles available at each stage. but for now we will start with 5

i would like this to be made a priority for artists doing buildings. they are the least demanding part of the game, and you only have one tile to deal with (in terms of space) so 12.5 meters wide is the current limit i would say (not a very big pffice, but i have seen 8 floor buildings thinner than that.)

http://wiki.openttd.org/index.php/HeadQ ... raphics%29

your own designs are ok.

we have a 32bpp build for OTTD which we are implimenting things in as they are done.

Isn't 1 tile 25x25? So a 2x2 would be 50x50m?

I'd also consider adding a 6th stage, that of MEGA CORPORATION ie skyscraper or something - maybe HQ:CEO? :P

nope one tile will be 12.5 meters. this is a result of the "two tracks on one tile" debate. we decided instead of breaking the tiles up virtually, we may as well make it easier and make the tiles mroe zoomed in.

Well, I don't have time atm to do them. And I don't know blender :P

Got other things to finish first ;)

If I do have time in the next week, I can always do some sketches and simple models to help someone else.

I could do them but I don't have the time until at least next week and I can only use 3ds max so someone would need to convert the files somehow.

Well, much as I would love to help, I fear it would end up something like:

Although the shading on that house is a little more advanced than I'm capable of. ;)

Apart from the fact that I currently hardly have time for anything: I don't know what is so important with these? Ok, they are a little easier to do than the other graphics, but because the other gfx also "sometimes" have to be done, I don't see the reason to rise this topic. I mean, looking at the wiki and the blender thread it seems we have still tons of non existing graphics, starting with one is IMO just as good as starting with another one...

Actually I chose these for a simple reason.....

They are/will be the easiest thing to put in the game.

They have no construction phases, they are one piece buildings.

as of yet, no buildings have been tested in the game, I would like to test buildings in the game to work out any issues before they arise. I figured company headquarters are a good oppertunity for that.

simple things like colours, do they fit with an OTTD style? company colour overlays, will these work fine? scale? alpha overlay ontop of different landscape types...?

i chose them because they are manageable. i have basicly done the tiles (and shores). and am trying to test the next phase

i'd rather people don't put to much effort into areas which might need to be changed as a result of what we learn from a test situation.

Standards are far from finalised, so we need somthing to test inorder to finalise things. somthing easy to deal with.

So if anyone wants to do them we are at the point of needing them in the next few days.

people floating around IRC will notice we have a 32bpp build of OpenTTD with all new icons. it is looking very flash :D

Ok, so far I had not thought, of course.

Then I agree that it's better to do exactly these buildings for testing purposes.

But with "simple things like colours, do they fit with an OTTD style?" I see the problem that we currently don't have something like a style, because ALL gfx will be replaced with some new ones ;).

I used to be great at making small icon that looked good but that was with 16 colors, don't think I have the skills to do 32bpp, however I'm looking forward to a 32bpp release :)

BTW: looked at some of the new graphics you guys have created, looks f... sweet

On the point of the HQ, how about making it a little larger? say 2*3 so it's 6 squares (rather than 4) (same size as current power-plants).
The tower block never looks "big" enough when its running multi-billion dollar companies.

Moriarty. well i personally have plans to make the HQ more modular, so you build new additions as the game goes along (exapnding it, or making regional offices....)

but the Artists only have control over the art side of things currently, we can't rely/ put to much pressure onto coders, and expect it to be done instantly.

so that is long term plans.
