alpha 10

Post by spaceman-spiff »

Yes, Josef had put alpha 10, so i tried it out

i had to delete my cfg file first, cause there are some new switches

i loaded a savedgame
this is what i got: messages from all my stations that they no longer accepted cargo, then all my stations increased the cargo that was waiting by 10, so all my stations did still accept it, speaking off lots of cargo, wow

then i sent an e-mail to Josef
this is what he replied:

At 02:01 AM 16/09/02, you wrote:

>passengers and more ?

Sorry about that, looks like that version is quite broken...

I have to go to bed now so I won´t have time to fix it until tomorrow
evening, so I´m uploading alpha 9 again.

I guess that´s why they´re called "alpha" ...

So now he put back alpha 9 to have a look at it later

i have attached a screenie of that problem

edit: typo

full stations.zip (79,829 bytes)

I didn´t post about alpha 9, since there was no binary for download, only diff files. And the fixes where quite few. Anyway, I notice I have an opponent on this thread :D

Good, now you´ll get a more updated thread!

There can only be one in this thread :P J/K

Are you on the ttdpatch mailinglist? I just read the newsgroup. I haven´t seen anything about the alpha 10 there.

Try alpha 10 with the new option, "moveerrorpopup on" or "-E" :)

You don´t have to be a member or something. I think most ISPs have a news-server that you may use. You can use programs like Outlook Express, Forte Free Agent or like me, Xnews. (If you use windows). You may also use the news-client in Netscape/Communicator/Mozilla.

You may also register at http://groups.google.com , and post that way. But it´s more user friendly to use a program.

You find Xnews at: http://xnews.newsguy.com/ (Freeware)
Forte Agent and Free Agent: http://www.forteinc.com/agent/index.php (Shareware and Freeware)

You have to figure out your newsserver by yourself :)

You can post test-messages in the alt.test group. Or your local test group be.test(?)

You post a new message with the button ´p´

A tip: Use an email-account you use for spam. Because those bots are reading through posts scanning for emails.

or use a block like youraddress@isp.com.NOSPAM. That will stop some of them. I have used an spam address on news, and now I´m getting approx. 200 spammails pr. month. And that´s not much compared to others.

from josef´s source page:

Alpha is a development version not tested by anyone but myself, and may or may not contain serious bugs. Please be aware that it might crash or hang TTD, or your computer. It probably won´t, though.

Beta has already gone through a fair amount of testing by other people, and should be fairly stable, but might still have some rare bugs or crashes

so alpha versions shouldn´t be avalable to the big public, he does it anyway because the testing goes much quicker

but when he will make it into a beta version , i really wouldn´t know

All I meant, was that you put a .NOSPAM or .INVALID or something behind your real email public address. Or you´ll get a lot of spam.

I guess you have to use your username and password to post on the server you are trying to use.
