Exchanging graphics

Post by jack verheydt »

The thing that's especially interesting in simulations is that there are so many vehicles of all nationalities. I don't know about these things, but would it be possible to translate these graphics (in Locomotion they are .dat files in the folder ObjData, in Transport Tycoon they are called .grf or newgrf, and then there is Simutrans, which is otherwise the most promising graphics-wise, think. What they are called in Railroad Tycoon I don't know, but Locomotion is the most important, the others less so. But I don't know how it's done, although I'm sure it's possible. Graphics are graphics. To avoid any copyright problems, I suggest that individual players should be told how to do it exclusively for themselves (by signing some sort of legally binding agreement) and not for distribution. Perhaps it would even be possible for the Simutrans people and Gary Grigsby to stick their heads together and work out some kind of exchange? It's a shame that there are so many terrific graphics around, and they cannot be used by all simulations. Can you imagine what that would look like ? Who will do something about this challenge ?Jack Verheydt (j.verheydt@hetnet.nl).

It is not possible to convert LoMo models to (O)TT(DX) and visa versa.

Due to different sprite angles, sprite-palletes, sprite-sizes.
