Hi there, all new to the community.
I have been playing Transport Tycoon like crazy years ago and was happy when I found Locomotion on the cover dvd of the new PC Games (german pc mag) yesterday.
However, I am having a couple problems, mainly caused by transporting goods.
Ok here is the deal. I am transporting lumber and the end product is goods (have to directly translate here since I am playing the german version, not sure of any specific vocabulary in the english version).
Now, there is this train wagon which can transport food and (goods). Notice the braces... right. So I of course want to transport the goods to a town, but all I can do with the train is load food (cause of the wagon I guess). But its supposed to carry both goods and food, yet once again, the only option I get is to load food which of course the train doesn't do. It will either idle in station when set to "wait til fully loaded" or drive from station to station with empty wagons. This basically is my problem I have with every other wagon that can carry multiple things ... it will only transport the main stuff in its description and I find it impossible to load it with the alternative. I searched the forums but could not find a real match for my problem so I am officially lost. Help please.
Right another question: Is it normal that certain goods disappear from a station when not loaded right away? What is that all about?
I'd be more than thankful for a reply cause these issues are a big hinderance in playing the game properly.
Need help with cargo/train wagons

I think you have to click on the type of load button and hold down your mouse button which will show the other choices
About the cargo dissapearing, yes, if you don't load fast enough, your rating drops fast and it will take a very long time to get enough cargo once more

Well, back to work, lot's of it in the near future
Welcome Harmor
Locomotion free as a cover disk. Great. More players.
'Goods' is the end product for lumber when taken to a sawmill.
Yes you will use a wagon to transport these 'goods' which can transport either food or goods. You do not need to tell the train to 'wait until full'. It will load any available 'Goods' without being told.
But if you do want it to wait then the trick is a spacemanspiff says..to hold the mouse button. This is a common question...see here.

To stop cargo ratings falling and uncollectted cargos wasting away there are a few tactics. One of may favourites is to use a lorry to pick up, then put down (using load and unload orders). Its does not move anywhere but the frequent pick ups will keep station ratings higher and reduce cargo waste.
Incidentally there is an excellent german language fansite. Give my regards to Larry and Erazor if you find it. Enjoy your new game.

Thanks a bunch guys. The trick with the trucks is quite helpful and my trains finally do what I want em to ^^
One more question: is there a bug with the trains? The game came as 1.76 (I believe) and when I tried to build a train it said "Cannot place vehicle here - other vehicle passing" ... or something along that line. I would click around the tracks like crazy and finally the train popped up O_o ... other than that I am really enjoying this one.

It sounds as though you are attempting to place a train onto a section of track where then already another train. It could be miles away...but if there is no signal between it and you then the track is considered one block and you cannot place another train here.
May I suggest either add signals to create multiple blocks, or wait for the other train to move away beyond a signal, or find another location to place the train.

Harmor, divide the route in blocks which are a little bit longer than your longest train.
Total trains is max the amount of blocks minus one.
A train looks about 50 tiles ahead and reserves that track.
So to place a train, stop one, and then place the new one in front of it.
Most easy way is however, to place a train in an empty station.
How to do that, look here:
