Is something wrong with my TTD installation?

Post by tvradict »

I posted a few weeks ago about TTD starting new games in 1930 instead of 1950. I got the answer very quickly, but as its been a while since I played TTD I decided to press on with just buses.

Now, 55 years later, My company is worth £64million, I have bought out all my competitors, and I have just hit the Vehicle Limit.

This surprised me A LOT. I used to hit the vehicle limit in 2040, somehow I've done it in 1985. I used to use full length stations, my longest in this game is 5 squares, and even then, not all my trains are 10 items long.

My Vehicle Breakdown is

65 Trains
69 Road Vehicles
60 Aircraft (of which 10 are Helicopters)
0 Ships

any ideas as to why i've hit the limit so soon??

TIA
Stuart.

That's about (guessing on the second 10 here)
69+(60*2+10)+0+65*10=849

The limit is 850, unless you have morevehicles on.

That doesn't answer the question completely. Possibly you usually seldom use road vehicles, but as you have now started in 1930, with first a lot of road vehicles, it adds up a lot faster to your vehicle limit. This is mostly because trains have a lot more capacity than RV's, and when playing 'normal' (from 1950 in your case), you'd propably have substituted about every 3 (or somewhat like that) RV's for 1 train.
Conclusion: to not have too many vehicles in your current game, substitute the RV's for trains. But, as DaleStan pointed out, morevehicles might be a better option. This lets you have as many as you want.

How do I turn the morevehicles switch on?

I seem to remember there being a GUI for the TTDPatch but I can't find it anywhere now.

Open ttdpatch.cfg with notepad (It'll be in your TTD directory) and search through it for a line that starts with "morevehicles". When you find it, change it to "morevehicles 3" or "morevehicles 4". That should work for all but the largest games. I only very recently hit the point where I needed to up it to "morevehicles 5", and that was in a game I had been playing for ~150 years. (Game years, not real years.)

While you're there, check out the other switches, and adjust them to your liking. The default config is pretty well documented, but if you want more information about a switch, just check the manual.
