Trains and Traincars

Post by blane »

Hi,

I played a bit with the newgrfs and also read a lot in the forum. Am I correct that there is currently no graphic replacemet for the trains and traincars that work with openttd?

I tried the german DB set (dbsetxlw.grf), it loads up all right but the trains seem to be wrong in class and speed. Also the game crashes after a while.

I am asking this, because I am kind of bored with the traincars -- they look the same all over the game no matter what type of train I am using. And the Lev4 Chimera looks really strange with the standard passenger wagons :|

Works like a dream over here!

Which version of OpenTTD are you using? If you havent already i suggest you go and grab yourself a copy of the latest nightly from http://www.openttd.com.

I'm using nightly r2949 (and openttd.com/org is still down for me, as it was for days).

I tried the dbset with my current game from 2050 and it crashed shortly after checking the trains for a while. it was something like "bp height insertion failed" -- sorry have no log, but i will recheck.

from what i have seen, it is normal that the ICE3 is magnev and top speed 260? within the normal railtrains there was only the bp electric available.

edit: thx, i will give the stuff a try :-)

btw: where do i get the north american renewal set?

The stuff contains an openttd.exe -- can't use that since i'm running linux. working with dbsetw/dbsetxlw still produces same result:

Code: Select all

openttd: gfx.c:1395: GfxMainBlitter: Assertion `bp.height > 0' failed.
/usr/games/openttd: line 4: 1301 Aborted ./openttd

more info

Code: Select all

[/usr/share/games/openttd] openttd
dbg: [dbsetxl.grf][Error] ParamSet: Unknown operation 8, skipping.
dbg: [dbsetxl.grf][Error] VehicleMapSpriteGroup/4584: Invalid special sprite length 6 (expected 7)!
dbg: [dbsetxl.grf][Error] ParamSet: Unknown operation 8, skipping.
Hmm, what combination of newgrfs should i have?

Thanks, will try.

I messed around with different grfs and the dbsetxlw.grf seems to work now. however, there is no monorail available, and magnev (transrapid) can only transport passengers and mail, is this correct?

Yes, that's correct. DBXLset uses almost all possible ID for normal-rail locos and carriges, so there is no much left for anything else.

Yes, that's right:
The patch guys use electrified railway instead of monorail
The DBSetXL creators decided it would be more realistic if there are limited cargoes for the maglev

Ah, thanks, just making sure :)

Hm, electrified railway ... I have the newgrf but is it necessary to actually upgrade the tracks to make that work? From what I have seen, The electrified trains can be build immediately?

Sorry for all the newbish questions but you guys are always so helpful, it's tempting to go on :D

So I just hope openttd will be fixed soon so I can get the latest nightly (=

Electrified rails not worky.

There are a few patches on SourceForge, but they're ancient, and the Devs are planning to implement electrified rails entirely differently.
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.

With current nightly (r3029) I still get an error when using dbsetxlw.grf:

Code: Select all

[~] openttd
dbg: [dbsetxlw.grf][Error] VehicleMapSpriteGroup/4900: Invalid special sprite length 6 (expected 7)!
dbg: [dbsetxlw.grf][Error] VehicleMapSpriteGroup/4900: Invalid special sprite length 6 (expected 7)!
Apart from that the newgrf seems to load and work fine though...

There are times when JPG is useful, TTD screenshots is not one of them. Please use PNG instead.

As far as I know, the code is there for them to work, but the graphics haven't been done yet.

Blane, that line is for generic callback results, which OpenTTD doesn't support yet. Currently this is only used by the AI, but there are other features planned.

I have code in the works for supporting generic callbacks.

So to summarise, at the moment it only affects the AI, so you can probably ignore it.
He's like, some kind of OpenTTD developer.
