AFAIK tramways don't work in OTTD(yet), you'd need Transport Tycoon Deluxe and the TTD patch to be able to use those...

and i have no idea where to get those, i don't even know where to get the DBSet...
JPG SUX!!! USE PNG!!!

these should be simple sprite swaps, so should work fine in ottd.

Think of it as rail-way graphics, just with a tram-lookalike. As I've read from the original topic it's just a graphic swap at the moment, eg. you can't have busses drive on those roads.

If you get the tramways working can we be allowed to have cars and buses running along the same road.

It wont work in theory as the tram will just smash through em, but if traffic lights were created then it should work

jpmaster............ why don't you tell from where the pic's are??

Here is another one...
Image

RK and me are working on a TRAM-Set. here are some more informations, it's a german forum.....TTDLXHQ

and there is a crossposting in the TTDPatch-Graphics sector: tt-forums

First it's done for TTDPatch, but i'm OpenTTD-Player much more than the patch, and so i Think we would be able to transfer it to OTTD soon.
We will need some help from the devs of course....

I've been following the set development and I believe that in OpenTTD it can be achieved with a bit less effort than for the patch (since openttd is in C, is open source and it doesn't use the original ttd executable).

Maybe someone is willing to try and code trams into the game now? I know it's scheduled for the map rewrite but since that has been put "on hold" for god knows how long...

I only wish I could find time to learn how to code... :(

Great work on the trams there, but I thought I'd throw in another idea that doesn't rely on a third railtype.

I seem to recall that there is a discussion going on re: the possibility of making Long RVs bhave more realistically (this was in the TTDP forums I believe), and in that context someone mentioned if it was possible to code LRVs to behave like "road trains", so that they in effect behave as a train and wagon would when turning. If that is feasible in some way (I don't know if it really is, at all), isn't it just a minor change to actual road trains, ie, trams? That could potentially address the "tram and RVs on the same road" problem raised here, though the question of a GRF for tramtracks (on-road and off-road, as seen in LoMo) remains.

Ideally, such a tram would share bus stops, specifically the drive-through stops now available for busses on TTDP. (Qhich someone would have to code OTTD support for, naturally.)

I should think trams would be implemented after electric rails, Dextro - I have a feeling there will be a push for this sometime in the future though as NewGRFs support is speeding along nicely...

Well I'm not a very big fan of electric railways, I think they just make the tracks look ugly and unclean but that's just me :?

i think that is one of the things that lets OTTD down, the fact that electric railways are (currently) not available...

i found this at sourceforge:

This looks very similar to the previous patch and really seems
all over the place.
I am sure it is possible to have this, and any other new railtypes
integrated in a
non-hackish way. Electric railways will be looked at after 0.4.0

How do you want to see them? You need a new "underground mode" like in Locomotion...

i was thinking underground mode like in RollerCoaster Tycoon.

however, i've never played locomotion, atleast not the game you are refering to. i used to love playing Locomotion on my Amiga back about 10 years ago.
