freighttrains patch

Post by peter1138 »

This patch simulates heavy freight trains in a manner similar to TTDPatch (I say similar as I've never played it...)
http://wiki.ttdpatch.net/tiki-index.php?page=FreightTrains wrote:Since TTD really does not allow very long trains (mammoth trains notwithstanding), the acceleration and handling of freight trains in TTD tends to not be very realistic. With this switch, this can be improved somewhat.
This patches causes the amount of cargo carried by freight trains to be multiplied by the given factor. A freight train here is any train carrying cargo other than passengers and mail.

Looks pretty good, except that the mass of the empty vehicle isn't multiplied. Since the concept of the original TTDPatch setting was to model very long trains, where 1 wagon stands in for 5 (or however many) actual wagons, loaded or not, I think the base weight should be multiplied as well.

Hmm, I think you're right. I modelled it on the description of the ttdpatch option, heh...

Ok, this modification calculates the whole weight in a single place (better), and includes the weight of the wagon in the multiplier.

whats this? train increases weight when the engine is accelerating to simulate the extra resistance caused by the oposing forces?

Nothing as complicated as that. It just increases the weight of the train to simulate a longer heavier freight train.

And this patch is an updated version for current SVN. Silly me...

Just started to use this patch and found a problem with the weight of a train.

I have a 40 car coal train and multiply X 3 i find that there is a weight discrepancy of 1760 tons on both empty and full trains

The extra weight of the 80 trucks is missing from the total weight of train.
