Why can't I add more than 12 grf files in the config

Discuss, get help with, or post new graphics for TTDPatch and OpenTTD, using the NewGRF system, here. Graphics for plain TTD also acceptable here.

Why can't I add more than 12 grf files in the config

Post by Smudge »

These are the grf files I'm using, but everytime I want to add one more the game crashes:

newshipsw.grf
trkfoundw.grf
signalsw.grf
newofficebuilding.grf
newoffice.grf
newoffice3.grf
cargosetw.grf
planesetw_459.grf
dbsetw.grf
multistoreycarpark.grf
helipad.grf
TgvW.GRF

Is there a solution for this?

What error message do you get and what version are you using? Also this should be in the OpenTTD Problems forum.

Can someone zip me up the more than 12 newgrf files with their openttd.cfg? Cause it sure doesn't happen to me.

Works perfectly here as well, both in latest SVN and 0.4.0.1

Just a small piece of advice though: don't include 'trkfoundw.grf', 'signalsw.grf', cause they are already included by default, so doing so adds nothing.

I advise against using multistoreycarpark.grf as it leaves a big white blob under it, it won't align for some reason.

DBsetXL is known to push the newgrf limits in OTTD. I compiled the Integrated Build with a higher sprite number limit, so you may want to try it and see how it works for you (for example, I am loading 5 sprite sets right now on it, including newshipsw, planesetw_459, newfontsw, dbsetxlw and USSignalsw).

Which one do i dl, as i can only seem to find an upgrade one, and i have no bloody idea what a binary win32 file is so a little help in that regard please :D Does it keep most of futures from the latest nightly builds? I'm an avid dl of those files and if after applying this i dl one, what affect would it have on the no. of sprites allowed? If ram is an issue, i have 2*512 DDR400 (cheap stuff though) running in dual channel so i think thats fine :D

a win32 binary is a program that windows(95, 98, ME, NT, 2000, XP, S2003) can run.
JPG SUX!!! USE PNG!!!
There are times when JPG is useful, TTD screenshots is not one of them. Please use PNG instead.

Yes, you would want the binary, as the other files are source files. Extract the binary on a folder and copy the required data files (the required grf files) there. And copy the gm folder if you want music aswell.

Also, the build is based on nightly r2424, so it has all improvement up to that point. Since this build is proving to be quite stable, I am not going to compile a new one in some time (like, a few more weeks). I recommend you keep two, or several copies of OTTD installed anyways (like I do :) ), so you can compare the different builds and features (and is better if you find a bug too, since you can test if it occurs on all versions).

Ok thanks for your help, now i have:

[newgrf]
newshipsw.grf
aussetw_440.grf
dbsetxlw.grf
modern_waypoint_183.grf
planesetw.grf
cargosetw.grf
McTrucksw.grf

running and no problems what so ever :D I will continue to use this release until the nightly's increase the sprite count, or you release another one, great work and the patches included aren't to bad either :D
