Some interesting questions....

Post by hooli »

I have been playing Transport Tycoon for many years now, and I am still having fun. I still go to all the Transport Tycoon fan sites now and again to have a look for new downloads and patches. I am using patch 1.9, which is a great patch. Before I ask my stupid questions I would like to say thank you to every one that has put so much effort into this game, espeically to all the fan sites out there that is keeping Transport Tycoon Alive. I am in the process of making the first South African TTD web page. Q1: Will there ever be TTD 2? Q2: Will Chris Sawyer be involved? Q3: What programming langauge was TTD design with?

And that were my simple stupid questions! Thanks once again to all of you for job well done.

Haha, don't worry there not stupid... compared to what I've seen lately :P

Q1: Yes I'm pretty sure there'll be a TT2 later on, but when... i'm not too sure. There's a TT2 wishlist in the General Transport Tycoon Forum... but it's probably dead and buried buy now

Q2: Yes chris sawer will probably involved in some way or another, but i'm not so sure if he'll as involved like in ttd.

Q3: Not sure really... in fact I just don't know :P Somebody else'll tell you though

And finally welcome to the forums... hope you stay   Hmm, don't think we've got someone from south africa :D

Hi and welcome,
hooli wrote:Q1: Will there ever be TTD 2?
Everybody wants it, but nobody knows when or who will develop it
hooli wrote:Q2: Will Chris Sawyer be involved?
Is he even alive ? let's hope he helps
hooli wrote:Q3: What programming langauge was TTD design with?
Some sort of assembler, which makes it very hard to change

Thanks guys for answer to my questions. The reason for asking these questions was because myself and two of my friends were dicussing TTDX and if TT2 will released. We also discussed wheather we should go ahead and design it ourselves, which is not a bad idea but after reading the topic that observer submitted, it is rather scary.

I will let everyone know about my TT website as soon as I am finished! :D

Just wait for some more replies, my answers were perhaps wrong :D

But write your own ? That's a big step, have you checked out simutrans, there's a topic about it. It was written by TTD fans also

Yes, I have downloaded SIMUTRANS and I was really impressed with the game. :o There is still A LOT to do in SIMUTRANS. But I still prefer to plat TTDX with 1.9 patch.

I will have to wait and see what other members have to say. Thanks

If you have suggestions or complaints about Simutrans, just tell me :)
I can't promise to include all suggestions and wishes, but for me it's important to know what you players think that must be changed or improved in Simutrans.

OTOH Simutrans can't compete with professional programs, and if weather is getting better again (Summertime!) progress usually slows down a lot ;)

Anyways if Chris Sawyer seriously starts a TT2 I guess I can quit Simutrans ... so your biggest hope is my biggest fear :-?

This weekend I will look at SIMUTRANS and give you some feedback and some suggestions on Monday since I do not have internet connection at home, only at work! :)

So you need to read the online tutorials today ;)
http://www.simutrans-tips.com

The manual is currently only available online, too:
http://www.simugraph.com/simutrans/manual/en/index.html

But there is some in-game help, too. Some of the windows have a '?' button in the title bar. That button will open a new window with a (hopefully) helpful text about the windows contents - but that only helps if you already have a rough idea where to look for the things. The tutorials on simutrans-tips.com are very helpful IMO.

And a small warning: Simutrans is work in progress, don't expect a complete and well-balanced game yet. We try our very best, but as you said, it's still a long way to go. And some things work quite different as in TTD, i.e. trains will always try to use the platform that you clicked when editing the schedule. Trying to use signals to distribute trains among free platforms as done in TTD will just cause jams in Simutrans, or at worst hinder the train to reach it's destination. The platform precise schedules can help to use stations well, but sometimes they feel just too rigid, particularly if you are used to the TTD style of train routing. OTOH in Simutrans vehicles (most notably busses and trucks) will never get stuck in dead ends or endless loops - the different routing algorithm has its good points, too.
