TTDLX CD PDF Manual

Post by Richard F. Nagel »

Hi Folks,

My TTDLX CD that I recently bought has a PDF manual on it, but the more
that I look at it, the more it looks like for the original version. The
CD was a shrink wrapped jewel case, no box, no manual from Best Buy.
Anyone else run into this (or are the original and deluxe versions so
close that the differences in the manual don't matter)? BTW, the PDF
looks like for the version of TT that came with the add-on sccenario
editor.

Hmm...I think you are right. There are probably only minor differences
between the TTO scenario editor add on and the TTD manual. If it says
"Transport Tycoon Deluxe" on the front page, then I guess that it'll be from
TTD ;-)
Look through the manual and if there is a mention of the "new" climates
(arctic, desert and toyland) then it will be from TTD.
If you like I could send you my PDF if you want to compare them...

Is it the one that is distributed by "Slash"? I got that one too - the
UPN is 7 87659 00629. This is indeed the original TT+World Builder, not
TTD. Since I got it in a bargain box, I couldn't exchange it, and
contacting the distributor didn't get me anywhere. And since I only paid
$10 for it I didn't want to spend too much on phoning everybody to give
me the right version. Fortunately I found a used version of the real TTD
at a local flea market and didn't bother with it anymore.

If that's the one you got, I suggest you try to exchange it or get a
refund. It's definitely not TTD, even though the back cover says so -
and even makes mention of the four climates. I suppose if you feel like
it you could sue them for false advertising otherwise...

Hiya Eddie,

I would appreciate that. Just ZIP it up and send it on over to
RichNa...@compuserve.com, thanx:) I had read about a few folks getting a
CD that had TT+ the world editor on it (in a TT Deluxe jewel case), but
mine is _definately_ the TTDLX version (it has all four climates). The
only thing that doesn't seem to add up is the PDF manual.

Much thanx :)

Wow, this is getting even stranger <G>. My CD has the same UPN # that
you mentioned and is distributed by Slash, but it is definitely the
Deluxe version (all four of the climates are in the main menu, and there
is no "Mars" climate). Also, the world editor is built into the main
program, U can access it from the main menu. The PDF manual on the other
hand looks to be for the original version (i.e. demo buttons instead of
the actual title for each demo).

Interesting...

I suppose they eventually fixed the game but forgot to fix the manuals on
the CD.

Oh well, at least you have the right game. TTD and TT are not too
different, the biggest difference is probably the one-way signals, and
you can learn about those from the advanced signalling tutorial. Then
there's the three new scenarios of course, but except for industries
accepting different things it's the same gameplay.

OK. I've emailed it to you.
If you spot any differences, then post them to this group please.

Hiya Eddie,

Got the ZIP OK. As I said in my email reply, the PDFs are totally
different. The one that is on my CD is for TT original, and the one you
sent is for TT Deluxe. The rest of the game on my CD looks OK 'tho (TT
Deluxe). Guess Slash was trying to fix the main problem and forgot a
minor one <G>.

Again, much thanx,

It does seem that way.
From the email it does definately seem they've messed up. Well, at least you
have a slightly more up to date copy now.
I don't understand. When did they release TTO again on CD? With a PDF on the
CD. Hmm...I wonder where they have got it from. Unless...yes it must be from
a combined version of TTO and World Editor. Strange indeed. I guess you
should tell "Slash" all about this.
