TTO: can you replace aging buses w/o redoing routes by hand?

Post by BunnyNNCY »

Is there a way to replace old buses (and aging planes and boats) on the same
route without having to re-enter all the routes? Is there a way to use
keyboard shortcuts? (its so easy to replace the aging locomotives..)
thanks! Bun

Yes, there is. When you want to replace a bus and keep the route as it was,
first open the "New vehicle" window in the depot before you sell the old
bus. When you sell your bus now and quickly buy a new one, the route will
not be erased. The same goes for boats/planes. Have fun!

Hello.
I've never had this problem. If you follow the method that Alex Rijk posted,
then you shouldn't go wrong.

When you get the report the vehicle is in the depot, click on that depot,
and press "New Vehicles."
Click the relevant vehicle, and then drag the aging bus to the bin. Press
Build Vehicle in the New Vehicles window and you should have a new vehicle,
with all the routes still entered.

The worst problem is replacing road vehicles destroyed in level crossing
collisions. You have to work very quickly as once the burnt out hulk
disappears all trace of the route taken by that particular vehicle is
erased. In that respect, the later version of RT2 was quite good as it
did prompt if you wished to replace a crashed train.

Yes, that does work.
But if you are replacing several vehicles, you have to dump and replace
one before dumping the next one.
And it won't remember names or service intervals (although Josef is
working on it for the next version of his patch).

That should be good. What I and a lot of other people would like to see is
multiple replacement of the buses, trains etc. so you can do it all in one
click, rather than a click, a drag, a click, a click, and another click.

One thing I often have missed is a way to replicate a trainset with names
serviceintervals etc. - so you easy could make say 4 identical sets. Is it
possible?

Sadly I don't think it is.
However, I recall that Josef mentioned something about trying to develop
this for the next version of the TTDPatch. Good luck to him!
