Multiplayer? 'T'would be easier to buy the Tycoon Collection

Post by Eddie Bernard »

After numerous attempts on the Microsoft Gaming Zone trying to play TT over
IPX, I've almost given up. I don't get any errors reported, I've installed
the IPX protocol, but it just doesn't do anything when I finally press that
Initialise button.
Either the Zone is to blame, or TTD is not compatible with it. I know that
TTD works on Kali, but it just won't work at all on the Zone. Maybe I should
try DirectPlay?
I'm not paying for Kali, I might as well just buy the Tycoon Collection and
save me all this bother. BTW, the Tycoon Collection is £24.99 at
http://www.gameplay.com I would convert it to Euros, but I haven't seen the latest
conversion rates.

Just thought I'd tell you before you waste your time and money bothering.

Is the network support better in the TTD from the collection? That would
be another good reason to buy it - aside from trying to make my patch
work with it. My local games store promised that they'd have it within a
week or two, so can anyone confirm that the networking is better with
this version?

I've already paid for Kali to play some other games, and since it's only
a once-in-a-lifetime fee, I don't think the price is unreasonable at all.
Although Kali may become less important in the future, now that IPX games
are becoming rarer and rarer.

Yes. Apparently it contains TCP/IP support. A couple of people on here have
it. If Hasbro ever do offer an upgrade, then maybe we could organise
contests on here. I certainly won't be paying for the Tycoon Collection, I
have two of the games from it, I would be wasting my money just to get that
simple upgrade. Surely it is not beyond them to offer a simple upgrade.

What do you need to patch it? Do you need the whole game or just the
EXE. If it's just the EXE then I'm sure someone could send you the
file for you to work on. If not then Please buy it.

I can't say, because I don't know the differences between the versions.
But the .exe file would definitely be a start. It may be that they
changed other files too, maybe a list generated by "dir /a > filelist"
would show which ones are different. I'm going to buy it, but it seems
to take a long time to come out here in Canada.

If the zipped .exe file is smaller than 1MB you can send it to me by
email if you like, or I'd set up an ftp server where you can upload it.

However, I'm not going to have too much time to fix it if it turns out to
be more different than a new version number, in that case it would take
more than a month.
