New to group

Post by Kenneth E. Coakley »

I am quite excited to have found this newsgroup. I've been playing TT since
it was released and feel it is one of the best games I have ever played.

I was curious if someone could point me to a good website for TT news and
info as well as a possible solution to a problem I'm having. I am unable to
get sound in TTDX in Windows 98. I have a Monster Sound MX300 sound card
that is supposed to provide DOS sound compatibility. Can anyone tell me how
to get my sound back?

Thanks for any help,
Ken

Hello, and welcome to the newsgroup.

Here on this NG, we have our own website. I am the webmaster of it. On it,
there is a bit of the stuff you asked for. TT news - there is a section on
the site which has details and links to all the TT sequels in development.
For your technical question, there are loads of people on this group who all
have the same problems. I'm sure they'll share them with you ;-)

Aside from the sequels section on our site, there are screenshots,
scenarios, competitions, patches, vehicle info, loads of links, strategy
guides, and sounds from TT. Take a look and tell me what you think.

Dear co-Transport Tycoon players,

I am also a very enthusiastic Transport Tycoon (deLuxe) player for years
now. Though the graphics are quite outdated, it keeps drawing my attention.
As most people here, I am very happily pleased to see there are many more
old fanatics who just can't seem to stop having a passion for Transport
Tycoon.

Anyway, I also have a little question about the support of sound cards by
TTDX to a more experienced player. Is there maybe an update available for
TTDL which solves soundcard problems? On my system, the music plays
perfectly but I can't hear those nice sound effects since I have a new
computer. I have a simple soundcard which is integrated on my mainboard,
known under Wnindows 98 as a 'ESS Solo-1 PCI AudioDrive'. I hope somebody
knows how to solve this problem, because playing TTDL without sound is much
less fun. And sorry for my bad English, but I'm doing the best I can....

With kind regards,

Alex Rijk (The Netherlands)

Eddies welcome is very nice, but he didn't answer your technical problem -
nor will his site.

I suggest a couple of things - which may or may not help.
Tycoon loves IRQ 5, so ensure this is the soundcard IRQ. You can set this
from within Windows...
Does the game work at a normal DOS prompt (outside of Windows)?

I know there is a problem with Creative Labs soundcards - their DOS
compatability wasn't too compatible - and they released a patch. If its a
new soundcard, I'd check their site and technical support - they may know
about the problem.

Let me know if it solves this problem...or doesn't!!!

Oh, and welcome to the group too!!

I'd suggest tweaking the IRQs as per my previous post, or trying it outside
of Windows??

Sorry the answer is vague .....

Hi Kenneth.
I was curious if someone could point me to a good website for TT news and
info as well as a possible solution to a problem I'm having.
Well....Ed's got his plug in for the site already.....(Hey Ed are you online
24/7?)

You may also want to take a look at peoples sig lines.....There are a fair
amount of sites in this NG.....Eds is the 'central one' and his is updated
very often....But look about the place....There are other sites that hold
lots of other info...

Hey Ed....Not a dig 'K?
I am unable to get sound in TTDX in Windows 98. I have a Monster Sound

Can anyone tell me how to get my sound back?
Ermm...Ok..I guess that you have tried all the options in the TTDLX options
menu?

You should find that the FX should work with the general SB option...
And the music with the General Midi.......
Just try messin with the settings.....
.
Thanks for any help,
Your welcome...

Hmm...I think there may be extra help for this kind of thing on the newer
version of the Win TTDLX on one of the compilation
packs.........Erm....Sorry guys.....Whoever baught it could they help here?

If you get no joy.......Just try messing with the cards and such.....(I seem
to remember seeing something about the integrated cards being SB 100% clones
but I could be wrong.......Did you get a manual with it?
And sorry for my bad English, but I'm doing the best I can....
<Ahem>
I 've gotten in trouble before about commenting about peoples ability with
English........So I'll say nothing!!!

I wish I'd have Creative Labs soundcard...mine is just a simple on the

I tried Tycoon after rebooting in MS-DOS modus and the sound effects did
work now...but the music didn't at this time, whereas the midi-music did
play in Windows98. Resetting my setup-settings didn't help. I see no other
option as continuing my life without soundeffects in Transport Tycoon
deLuxe....though that will be hard to cope with. Thanks for you help anyway!

I played TT for almost five years before I even realised there were sound
effects, then I saw some stuff on a few websites about sound effects in TT
and realised what I was missing. I solved the problem by changing the
sound card in the setup to plain old soundblaster, even though that's not
actually what I have, and since then the sound effects have been fine.

As the Windows version of TTDLX uses DirectX for video and
sound, if your sound card will work with DirectX then it
will work with Win TTDLX. (Basically, the chances are it will
work fine!).

I already experienced this problem: getting sound but no music under MS-DOS
mode. I didn't find any way to solve this except running any DOS program
that uses MIDI before launching TTDLX. Then, I got musics.

And, oh. Welcome to the group!

Eh?
$70 roughly £43 up front? That's a lot of money I don't really have. And
then £5 a month. I could pay that pretty easily, but the fact that I'm
losing money when I prefer to save it does not go down well with me.
