TTDX and Sound Blaster 64

Post by Joachim Vedal Johansen »

Hi!

I have a problem with my Soundblaster 64 card and TTDX. When I set it up I
use the standard settings for IRQ and so on. But when I start the game it
says: Illegeal opperation, Sound blaster not found. I've tried
Soundblaster clone, and standard soundblaster, but no one works. Music
works fine when I choose soundblaster 32. I've noticed im my autoexec.bat
file that the IRQ number are not the same as in TTDX setup, though. Mine is
9, but 9 isn't in the list. Any ideas?

Hi again!

I've managed to change the IRQ from 9 to 5 in windows, but i think the
problem is the base port being 280. Maximum base port in TTDX setup is 260.
Anything I can do about this? Or anyone know a soulution to play in win98.
Crash free... :-)

Set your SB settings manually in Win98 Control Panel - System - Device
Manager. Set them to something that TTDLX likes (it doesn't seem to like
IRQ9) and that doesn't conflict with anything else. Then rerun TTDLXs
INSTALL and use the same settings.

Mine works happily this way, on IRQ10, DMA1 & 5, & address 220, even
though these are not what Windows would use if left to its own devices.

Yeah, I've done that. I changed the IRQ to 5 (wich was in no conflict) but
it still doesn't work. I think it's the port being 280 and not 220. How
can I change this? The highest number in TTDX setup is 260.

Just a note, I was mucking about recently with the IRQ assignment in the
BIOS and from within windoze (to help a friend with a similar config) to
try to disable the onboard IDE on an SB32 and left it with some IRQs
disabled (I've got plenty spare on this machine :)

Tried TT without thinking and BAM!, no go. Tried to reconfigure the
sound using install.exe, but still no go even though you could select
the IRQ, DMA and port numbers ok. Reset and re-enabled all the IRQs,
reconfigured TT and everything wen't back to being hunk-dory.

Seems TT _really_ likes IRQ 5, Port 220 and DMA 1. I would manually
assign these in the BIOS to your sound card and let windoze fight over
the rest :)

cheers...

Go to ControlPanel - System - Device Manager - (your sound card) -
resources. Make sure Use Automatic Settings is not checked. Then you
can manually change all the settings (including the input - output
ranges) to something TTDLX can cope with. Make sure there are no
conflicts, reboot and rerun TTDLXs INSTALL.EXE

Is it? My SB64 is set up as Port 220, IRQ 5, DMA 1 & 5, and that is on
the Windows Default values. I haven't changed a thing.
