You can make them in German...

Or in American...

Or the scary 'English' names.

Which leads me to something else...

How does TTO and TTD make up town names? I'm assuming it's a 'first part' +
'second part' = Town name. The only thing that defies that is the occasional
times when you get Whatever-On-Sea. Heh... funny British name.

Load TTDX.EXE with a binary editor. I personaly uses edit.com provided with
Win95.
City names are stored near offset 0x0186A0 (100000) on my version.
Make sure not to change name length, otherwise your game won't work anymore
:-(
It is really a good idea to make a backup copy.

British, German and American are made up that way.
Spanish, French and Latino-American name are predefined (there is only one
'part').

If you want to get technical about it. I've stopped referring to it as the
English language. I speak American. People who live in Britain speak English.
It's got more words because it's been around longer than American.

By the way, Washington is an American name because George Washington was
American, California is a Spanish name, and York is British, but we had no
choice about that because they named it that.

It's a stupid name.

Why shouldn't German names be funny? I can't speak German. Sounds funny to me.
What's your point?

New York isn't British, it's a cname for New Amsterdam, which is the
captial of The Netherlands as y'all might know.

Washington is almost certainly an Anglo-Saxon place name. George
Washington's family originated from Yorkshire BTW.

York is from the Viking Jorvick as far as I am aware.

Don't know about California. Could well be Spanish.

Does it really matter?

No, it doesn't. I just know there's a noticable difference between American

Did I say I was going to flame Rick....no. Perhaps I didn't say it clearly.
He's asking for a flame from others. This debate bores me rigid, and I
wouldn't dream of flaming anyone on a topic so pointless and trashy as this.
It's people like EnsCheckov, who would be doing the flaming. Me? I'd keep
well clear.

I don't like it because as I said, you're asking for trouble in encouraging
debates on irrelevant things.
In case you haven't noticed, this topic has split the group right down the
middle, and this thread is just living proof of this.
If it carries on, the group will die.

Sorry to be so blunt, but it's necessary.

Sorry to contradict you Paul, but we really need to kill this
thread.

According to Encarta "Washington was born on February 22, 1732,
in Westmoreland County, Virginia, the eldest son of Augustine
Washington, a Virginia planter, and Mary Ball Washington."

Contrary to my previous post, "Sulgrave Manor" in
Northamptonshire, "was the home of the Washington family,
ancestors of the American statesman George Washington."

Quite possibly the family name originates from Washington T&W but
that would be a long way back.

So what was that place in Yorkshire that we visited - erm - 20
years ago that was associated with the Washington family? I'm
definitely getting too old :-(
