Newbie Question.....TTDlxe/Win98

Post by Bryan A »

Don't know if this is a frequently asked question or not,
or if anyone can help me, but I run Win98 and have an
icon shortcutting to Transport Tycoon. Now, it's fine and
I love the game and everything, but why is it that I can't
ALT+TAB back to windows while TTd is running?

You have to enable it. Right click on the icon, choose 'Properties' and
click on the various tabs in the window that appears until you find the one
that enables one to choose which keyboard shortcuts are available when the
application is active.

These options would probably be under the *misc* tab?
If so, there's a problem because whenever I click on that
one I get an error and Windows Explorer shuts down! Any-
one care to send me a copy of their shortcut that I can
just change the path/programme line in?

Because like SC2000, TTo/TTd is a DOS program and just "runs" in
Windows. You can't minimize it, or do any windows things like ALT-TAB,
printscreen, copy/paste, etc.

but why is it that I can't ALT+TAB back to windows while TTd is running?
I'm sure other people will jump down my throat at this, but its happened on
most of the machines I've run TTDX on ....
TTDX hogs the graphics card and soundcard, so if you ALT/TAB Windows tries
to regain control. Windows is a bit of a bully and so Tycoon crumbles.
I've had many probs when I've ALT/TABed - even if i've pressed the Win95 key
by accident.

So, I reckon you can't. (*stands back and waits to be flamed....*)

You need a program call IIRC doswinkey.exe

It's on the win95/98 CD in the resource kit. it
disables the windoze key when in a dos window.

btw, I've never had a problem alt-tabbing in and
out of TTDX since I started using OSR2 and lately
98, handy 'cos I play at work :)

cheers...
