Yes, but sometimes that free version is just good enough for you that you don't need to but the pro version

My firewall (zonealarm) and my anti-virus (AVG), both do fine and were free

I use the free zonealarm. I have norton antivirus though (not free). You don't get many updates with free versions. And antivirus is very important for updates.

I agree ... however you can download updates to Norton (you don't have to use LiveUpdate) ...
I have SygatePersonallFirewall and NortonSytemWorks2003 .. and this is a big WALL protecting

however I noticed yesterday that someone tried to scanning my computer ... of course I use backtrace and I have his IP

.. If he will try it again ... I will get him
