[Nobug] - How to make trains faster?

Post by X2 »

Is there a way to make the trains faster? I know it possible with TTDAlter but not together with OpenTTD right? I'm using the latest nightly. I want to have the Asiastar to run in speed up to 400 km/h cause I hate to build maglevs.

I guess one could edit the source, or, much like TTD Alter alters the TTD executable, find out where the speed for the asiastar is stored in the executable for OpenTTD, and edit that.

Either solution is not that easy (seeing as you'll have to either edit the source or use a hexeditor and know what to do with it :P)

I believe somebody posted a patch somewhere or other to be able to do this without editing the source, it was only recent so a quick search will turn up results.

Otherwise you can edit tables/engines.h in the source and recompile.

A patch sounds great for me who is not so good at source editing. Please help me find this patch, I haven't found it yet!

When TTDAlter 4.3 is released along with the GRF Creator plug-in (I still need translations, people! See the topic in "Transport Tycoon Deluxe"), the GRF files it outputs should work with OpenTTD as they won't be particularly complicated. That'll sort of be a way of using TTDAlter with OpenTTD, I guess. ;)

Sounds great Orudge!
Is there any idea for me to upload my executable here and by help of you that knows how, change the speed of the Asiastar to about 400 km/h?

When you find this patch you will still need to recompile the source, so I do hope you know how to do that (and of course, apply the patch. Do a quick search in http://wiki.openttd.org )

I personally can't due to lack of facilities and time just now. But someone with a compiler could download the source, modify the appropriate values in the file in the table/ directory, and recompile it.

Anyway what's the point of altering the game? It is pretty lame and cheap since all values are proportional and realistic. Altering vehicles just messes the game.

Because I just hate to build maglevs and monorails, they are awful in my opinion. And when you play on a 1024x1024 map it would be great to have train faster than 265 km/h.
