Hi,
I noticed that even though I turned the number of competitors to zero in the difficulty settings window, competitors found companies in all premade scenarios. Note that there are no existing competitors in the scenarios when you begin playing, the show up in a few months. I think that even scenarios should obey difficulty settings as much as possible, given that no competitor already exist in the scenario.
E.g. it could be annoying to have computer opponents in a network game, where you have really smart opponents and no need for computer AI opponents.
I checked whether this also applies to the randomly generated maps, but there your current settings apply.
Premade scenarios ignore difficulty settings

yes it's something I've been thinking it's rather anoying for quite some time know. I don't know what the devs think though

I could hardly think that anyone could oppose fixing this. I may take a look at it when I get home today.Dextro wrote:yes it's something I've been thinking it's rather anoying for quite some time know. I don't know what the devs think though
By the way: I use OpenTTD 0.3.6 on Fedora Core 3 (Linux) with the Windows TTD GRFs. I downloaded last night's snapshot to have a more updated source tree, if I might do a little development work (bugfixing). I won't bother installing and learning Subversion yet.
UPDATE: The bug with the competitors starting up despite setting the number of competitors to zero seems to have been fixed. In the latest snapshot I could play for an entire year without any competitor appearing.
A related bug that still exists is that your currency settings are ignored when beginning a premade scenario. It works when you generate a random game though. A workaround is to change the currency after you start the game, then it works. I don't know if the option is perserved in savegames though (I did not test yet).
