[NoBug] - Installing on Ubuntu (download the WHOLE source)

Post by Toe Knee »

Hi,
I've recenlty became re-addicted to OTTD (mmm network play ;)) and have also recently moved from Gentoo to Ubuntu. Unfortunatley Gentoo has spoiled me by having all development stuffs already available. Ubuntu has very little. I've installed all that I can think of (and there dev versions), but still have the same problem...

Code: Select all

toeknee@toeknee:~/tmp/openttd-0.3.6 $ make
make: *** No rule to make target `endian_check.c', needed by `endian_check'. Stop.
Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

It looks like you didn't extract/download the complete openttd source... endian_check.c is suppposed to be in there...

Yeah, it was just me not unpacking it properly.

Although it does run jerkey (and about 60% cpu) without music and unplayable with music (100%cpu). It runs fine on Gentoo though, any ideas?

Code: Select all

file-roller -f package.tar.gz
Will work for almost any compresing format. The drawback is that you must be in X, as it is a gnome, program, althroght the -f flag will make the program extract the files without futher input, and then quit the program.

(Ubuntu users can skip this:)
As file-roller is a part of Gnome you would need to install it if it is not installed as default with your distrubution.

Or just use unrar, it extracts all known formats :)

Yes, file-roller is (or will be) a part of GNOME.
but it is merely a front-end for the console-based tools.
(I learned that the hard way, when trying to UNRAR a .rar archive on my slackware box without having unrar installed:))
