2-player

Post by Geo Ghost »

This has probably been mentioned before, but with all the new updates, i dont see why its notworh asking.
to day me and 'Geo.c Rumond' have installed an entire copy of my TTDp game files to his laptop, they work perfect, no problem there, but when we try to connect with a 2-player, he connects to my 'waiting game' but the game doesnt load. it just sits in the desktop, and causes other program windows to dissapear :?
help would be appreciated

I remember Csaboka and the other devs doing a fair bit of work on getting mutliplayer to work, but there are a lot of problems, especially with the use of the CTRL key for various functions...

I think the common consensus is that TTD Patch mutliplayer doesn't work too well (which is a shame, as a lot of work was done on it). I think that (I haven't tried this myself), the most reliable way to play TT mutliplayer is to use OTTD.

as far as I know, TTD multiplayer is done the best way it can be at the moment (probably it will stay)...

it can use latest DirectX to optimize connection stability however TTD requires less than 20ms or runs very very very slowly (like 1fps :/)

and btw. CTRL key is already avabile in multiplayer for some time without problems
what are you looking at? it's a signature!

All makes sence i surpose
we should have a multi-player TT. a game of TT for multi-player only. probably not possible though, because you would have to almost remodle the entire program.

Well, multiplayer was definitely working well in alpha 10, but I haven't tested it since then. You see, debugging multiplayer desynchs is quite a tedious job, especially that I was doing it on one machine with a virtual machine program, which slowed things down... I prefer working on new features instead.

Well, I may try fixing multiplayer again if enough people bug me about it...

Then, in that case, thats what I would prefer to. You are doing some really good stuff lately (for those that haven't seen it, go to the "Zimmlocks latest creation" thread, and take a look at that Hospital when it is demolished :D.

Thanks for the compliment, but it's really Zimmlock's "good stuff", not mine. I'm just providing the technical background.

Well, I guess I would consider multiplayer support to be a new feature, because for me, it never did work. We can still hope...

I think the Patchteam has mostly given up.
